Senior Electrical Engineer

SUMMARY:
The Senior Electrical Engineer will work in collaboration with the Functional Manager (electrical) and program/project managers to ensure smooth operation of telescopes, successful delivery and acceptance of telescope Extension, AVN
and infrastructure projects within schedule, budget and quality standards. The scope is also to take technical and operational decisions associated with our sites' electrical power systems to ensure organisational objectives are achieved.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

• Develop requirements, investigations, information and other data for technical designs and trade of studies
• Direct and manage a project to completion within performance management baselines (scope, schedule, cost, resources and quality)
• Ensure contractor's designs and installations comply with the organisation and statutory requirements.
• Ensure site power operations comply with the organisation's technical and quality requirements
• Ensure the quality of power received from Eskom meets the Electricity Supply Agreement conditions in place
• Contribute towards the graduate training program and mentor junior employees and site team

• B.Tech in Electrical Engineering plus 10+ years relevant experience
• B.Eng in Electrical Engineering plus 9+ years relevant experience
• M.Eng in Electrical Engineering plus 7+ years relevant experience
• Ph.D in Electrical Engineering plus 5+ years relevant experience

• Preferably come from a consulting engineering background;
• Previous experience on multi-disciplinary projects (Conceptual Stage to Construction Close-out);
• Held position of responsibility and accountability for designs and project delivery;
• Experienced with complete project lifecycle from inception to close-out
• Experience in operations and maintenance of electricity distribution systems

• Design and operation of power generation and distribution systems
• Project management processes
• System engineering best practices
• Working knowledge of built environment contracts especially NEC
• Knowledge of the industry's standards and regulations
• Extensive technical knowledge and experience related to radio astronomy infrastructure projects

• Extensive technical knowledge and experience related to radio astronomy infrastructure projects
• Display problem-solving skills
• Display excellent interpersonal skills

• Work in remote locations when required
