JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our Client, a Globally established Group Leader in the Technologically driven Global Logistics industry, operating across thirteen (13) countries on the African Continent, is seeking to urgently appoint a dynamic Head: Finance to be based in their Centurion Head Office.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • Reporting directly into the CEO, serve on the Manco as a Strategic Finance Business Partner
  • Manage the Full Finance Function
  • Lead and mentor a Finance Team of Professionals in Treasury, Financial Accounting, Operational Finance & Analytics
  • Be the ultimate commercial partner to the CEO and manage key stakeholder relationships e.g. Private Equity investors, Founders, Governments.
  • Ensure that the Finance function of The Group is managed efficiently and properly, in accordance with the highest standards of good practice across 13 African countries in which the Group operates.

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum CA (SA), CIMA or related qualification with articles from a Big 4 firm preferred.
  • Experience as Head of finance or similar Senior role is ESSENTIAL.
  • Substantial relevant professional experience within finance function, providing and presenting insightful financial information and commercial analysis
  • Experience working in Africa will be a major advantage
  • Strong Operational and technical skills, knowledge including a good understanding of financial, tax and commercial legislation across multiple African territories
  • Ability to deliver under pressure while maintaining full integrity of actions and high-quality output
  • Analyse and present complex information in a relevant and comprehensible way, including interpreting accounting data for non-accountants
  • Experience in Accounting Software and Payroll Software, including Advanced MS
  • Relationship management and building
  • Confident and enthusiastic self-starter who can take initiative with mature decision making and Emotional intelligence
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team by providing and accepting feedback, and placing the success of the team above own interests
  • Excellent organisational skills with good end-to-end project management skills and ability to prioritise multiple tasks.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Building the Finance function to deliver exceptional services to the Group’s teams with a clear focus on continuous improvement, problem solving and development, ensuring a high level of performance with a customer focus.
  • Ensuring the Group’s financial obligations are met efficiently, compiling with all financial and statutory requirements.
  • Maximising the impact of the Group’s financial resources and Finance function enabling the Group to deliver high quality services and programs, which meet the needs of internal and external Stakeholders.

Financial Planning and Management

  • Provide input into the Group’s strategic planning and share accountability for results with the CEO, this includes collating, preparing and interpreting reports, budgets, accounts, commentaries and financial statements.

  • Act as strategic financial adviser to the Leadership and Senior Management Team, providing sound advice, guidance and information on organisational performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Take overall responsibility for the management reporting, annual accounts and audit matters to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, investor and shareholder reporting and governance structures.
  • Deliver efficient and effective financial processes and controls, including income processing, general ledger, fixed assets, payroll and multi-currency cash management.
  • Manage the annual closing of accounts, year-end audit process and preparation of statutory financial statements for the group including managing the relationship with the Group’s external stakeholders.
  • End to end oversight and management of Treasury including managing banking relationships, planning, organising and controlling cash assets to satisfy the financial objectives of the organisation including but not limited to maximising the return on available cash and minimising risk and interest cost.
  • Drive and complete the development of financial controls, management systems and budget processing focussing on proactively supporting managers in budget preparation and control, understanding of reporting obligations and monitoring and challenging of expenditure.

Risk Management

  • Partner with and work in close collaboration with the Head: Legal & Compliance to ensure organisational risks are identified and managed within the appropriate risk framework and policies.
  • Carry out business risk assessments and evaluations across market, credit, liquidity and operational risk categories and implement actions to mitigate the risks.
  • Risk reporting tailored to relevant audiences and building a proactive risk management mindset across the organisation.

Operational Finance

  • Development/design of Finance related best operating practices, processes, procedures, policies, stock planning and service level KPIs.
  • Develop and implement automated tracking (with support from the Head of IT), monitoring, management and improving of stock levels and cash-up accuracy and manage risk
  • Monitor and complete an annual audit for all entities of The Group to ensure compliance to Finance related business best operating practices, processes, procedures and policies
  • Overseeing commercial decision making from an operations finance point of view including margin analysis, pricing analysis etc
  • Support new business (product and service) development opportunities identified and prioritised by ROI within both new and existing corridors.
  • Assist in the determination of product and service pricing in relation to service offering and competitor pricing.

Stakeholder management

  • Step in for the CEO in all key stakeholder relationships as a key partner in building these relationships for the Group.
  • Act as ambassador on behalf of the Group, creating opportunities to enhance the Group’s external profile and reputation amongst key audiences and pursue strategic alliances in line with corporate and business plan objectives.
  • Liaise with professional advisors, ensuring compliance with statutory bodies’ requirements, and be responsible for any issues arising.
  • Maintain key banking relationships across all jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and build key relationships with commercial partners and key suppliers.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and develop the Finance team by providing coaching and training, clear objective setting and regular feedback in line with the Group policies and procedures to drive strong engagement and delivery.
  • Responsible for the sharing and transfer of knowledge within the team.
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment.

Change Management

  • Through rigorous interrogation and leadership complete the transformation of the Group’s Finance function, establishing a team and set of systems, processes and tools which are fit for purpose accessible and trusted by the whole organisation including:
  • Ensuring the team is the right size, composition and has relevant skills to deliver against organisational needs.
  • Implementing and ensuring proper functioning of the applicable and chosen ERP system is set up, structured and working effectively for all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring processes are efficient, effective, robust and contain appropriate financial controls.
