Duties:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs
• Lead architectural decisions and contribute to long-term backend strategy
• Optimise performance and reliability across distributed systems
• Collaborate with DevOps to improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and uphold engineering best practices
• Integrate 3rd party services and manage secure data flows between platforms
• Work closely with product managers and front-end teams to ensure seamless feature delivery
• Monitor backend performance and proactively troubleshoot production issues

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in backend, cloud, or security technologies (advantageous)

• Minimum 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer, ideally in fast-paced, high-scale environments
• Proven experience designing RESTful APIs and working with microservices architectures
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), especially serverless and containerised workloads
• Experience integrating with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Previous exposure to performance tuning, caching strategies, and async processing pipelines
• Background in mentoring or leading backend developers is highly advantageous

• Proficient in backend languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, or Go
• Strong knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
• Comfortable with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems
• Strong communication skills and ability to translate business logic into technical solutions
• A continuous improvement mindset with a bias for clean, testable, and maintainable code
