POSITION INFO:

POULTRY FARM MANAGER

BASED IN NORTH WEST REGION

(Rearing/laying Manager)

 As a Breeder Farm Manager, you will lead a close-knit team who are supportive and will readily share their knowledge and experience with you. You will enjoy fulfilling your passion to deliver sustainable and ethical produce to the South African Poultry industry.

Duties and responsibilities

• Knowledge of Rearing and Laying farming operations
• Oversee people management by providing the necessary leadership to develop a high-performance workforce within the Production/ Rearing Department.
• Ensure that all HR Policies, Procedures and Practices are implemented and strictly adhered to on a day- by – day basis.
• Actively foster teamwork and constructive relationship with employees, based on principles of fairness, openness, honesty, mutual respect and equality.
• Coach and develop your team to ensure they have the capability to meet the performance goals
• Implementing performance management systems, practices, tools and hold production meetings to plan and review performance, that employee performance is actively being managed and evaluated.
• Ensure all livestock is treated humanely, and in compliance with company standards
• Coaching employees to help them develop a clear understanding of the requirements relating to Animal Welfare, Food Safety and Quality
• Involve the team by encouragement and motivating to deliver safety excellence and promote risk awareness by getting involved and following safety rules and identifying risks
• Drive improvement in the performance standards for uniformity of the flock, point of lay cost (POLC), health and animal welfare (up to 21 weeks)
• Conduct post mortems and report finding to senior area ops manager and group veterinarian
• Record and monitor weekly husbandry parameters
• Attending to HR/IR matters (i.e. planning leave, time sheets, disciplinary measures)

Essential Skills required 

• A good understanding of modern poultry farming methods, a commitment to animal welfare and an interest in, and understanding of, the ways in which farming impacts the environment
• Ability to work outside in all weathers and patience to undertake all sorts of practical, sometimes repetitive jobs
• Experience leading projects with minimal assistance, within framework and to budget.
• IT skills are essential alongside the capability to analyze operational reports, monitoring compliance with policies and procedures.
• A background of coaching and developing high performing people, with the aim to outperform

 

Qualifications/License’s

• Drivers’ license
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the area of Breeder management
• A degree in Agriculture is greatly valued and beneficial
