Business Development Manager (Export Trading)

SUMMARY:
Our client is a dynamic, family owned and run export business. We started out in 1972 and have grown into an award-winning organisation responsible for introducing, managing, and developing leading FMCG and non-food items in over 50 countries. They are headquartered in Durban but have a global team spanning three continents.

We are looking for a strong and capable individual who has experience in Export Trading to join our team in the role of a Business Development Manager. We are looking for a driven and commercially minded individual who can easily create sales opportunities. The ideal candidate would be someone who can assimilate information quickly and who is numerically minded, someone who looks for the detail but can understand the bigger picture. Experience in export trading in the Maldives and Asia would be a bonus.

POSITION INFO:
The position would require the candidate to travel to the markets at least once every 6 weeks and spend a period of approximately 10 days seeing customers and extending / developing our current business.

The Business Development Manager would be expected to be able to achieve the following:

• Achieve profit budgets which the candidate would annually set with the approval of the MD
• Seek and identify sales opportunities in the market
• Successfully negotiate a trade (sale) using negotiation and salesman's skills
• Maintain a high level of service to clients through strategic relationships and relationship building
• Comply with the regulations of various markets
• Comfortably work within the company's logistical and financial controls

• Proven track record of successfully negotiating and closing trade deals
• Foreign language experience would be a bonus
• Excellent knowledge of South African FMCG products’
• Ideally knowledge of perishable produce would also be advantageous
• Knowledge of exports and logistics.
• Must be able to travel
• Previous sales experience is critical to be considered for this role.
• Strategically inclined with risk management experience

• Good mathematical understanding and an ability to read numbers / figures
• Working knowledge of INCO terms both on a buying and a selling basis
• Creative and inventive style of thinking
• An ability to show initiative in any given situation
• The maturity to handle a diverse group of customers
• Ability to think out of the box with an attention to detail
• Assertive person who is strategically minded.
