Job Description:

  • Full-time position based in Kampala, Uganda.
  • Assisting the team’s requirement to meet contractual scope, schedule and budget.
  • Maintaining a positive and cooperative relationship with the client, NWSC.
  • Assist the Project manager with the management and leadership of the entire team, including sub-contractors and consultants.
  • Assist Project Manager on matters relating to project success including project delivery strategies, procurement, contract management, design and construction oversight, and commissioning.
  • Adherence to the company’s quality management program (PQM) and anti-corruption policy (ACP).
  • Act as the focal point for local issues including local staff and sub-consultants, interpretation of events on the ground, and contact for selected stakeholders.
  • Significant stakeholder collaboration and conflict mitigation, particularly with governmental agencies such as regional and local water authorities and NWSC.
  • Assisting in formal and informal reporting (progress and financial) to the client as well as the company.
  • Interacting with local Ugandan Government officials, private entities, officials of local governments, non-governmental organizations, other donors, and community-based groups.


Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering is a minimum and an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Professional Registration as a practicing engineer and certification in either the Project Management Institute or the Construction Management Association of America preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the design, and construction of diverse large civil projects. Experience with water treatment and reticulation in accordance with international standards – particularly FIDIC, and constructed by international-scale civil works contractors.
  • Experience in project and construction management of major elements of large civil infrastructure programs preferably over 50M USD in size.
  • Construction supervision/oversight and contract management experience on at least 4 projects in Uganda. Preference for water infrastructure/supply/treatment.
  • Ability to lead complex teams of professionals, sub-consultants and contractors in the delivery of large projects.
  • Highly professional education and training in large capital works’ project and construction management, and implementation including project controls, cost estimating and risk management.
  • Management of similar assignments in remote locations and developing countries
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of using/implementing project controls including scheduling, financial/funding tracking and reporting, and document management.
  • Capable and comfortable communicating publicly, preferably in international context.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong project scheduling skills.
  • Excellent writing skills and use of the full suite of Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Project, Outlook.


Required Education:

Language requirements/Preferences:

  • Fluent command of spoken and written English. 


Amount of Travel:

  • Routine travel to and from site


Other Factors/ Intelligence:

  • Experience with scheduling multiple contractors with large infrastructure projects.
  • Managing other similar large programs for a client
