POSITION INFO:

Our client is looking for an experienced Engineer Technical Manager: Cloud to lead a team focused on building and optimizing scalable, high-performance cloud-based data products. This role is critical in enabling data-driven decision-making, AI/ML initiatives, and operational reporting across the business.

You’ll lead the development of automated, reliable, and secure data pipelines in the cloud—ensuring that structured and unstructured data is efficiently processed and available for analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong collaboration across platform, AI/ML, and engineering teams.

What you’ll do:

• Build and optimize cloud-native data pipelines using AWS (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Kinesis, EMR)
• Design high-performance batch and real-time pipelines for analytics and AI workloads
• Enable structured data delivery for model training, reporting, and business intelligence
• Lead automation efforts using Terraform, CloudFormation, and CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins)
• Implement data quality checks, lineage, and observability practices
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams on feature engineering and data flows
• Ensure alignment with cloud security, compliance, and governance frameworks
• Mentor and lead a team of cloud data engineers, promoting best practices
• Enable reusable, governed datasets for broader engineering teams

Your expertise:

• 5+ years in data engineering, with at least 2 years focused on cloud-based solutions
• Proven experience building data pipelines for AI/ML, analytics, and real-time reporting
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EMR, Kinesis)
• Skilled in Python, SQL, PySpark and infrastructure tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Familiar with Kafka, CDC data flows, and data lakes/data warehouses (S3, Redshift, Snowflake)
• Deep understanding of CI/CD, version control, and pipeline monitoring with AWS CloudWatch
• Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments with AI/ML and platform teams
• Strong grasp of data governance, metadata, and compliance (e.g. POPIA, GDPR)
