Engineering Technician
Job Purpose:
The Engineering Technician is a key member of the Equipment & Facilities Management team, responsible for supporting the design, build, maintenance and troubleshooting of custom and standard equipment used in nanofiber production and post-processing. This hands-on role spans mechanical and electrical disciplines, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, technical support to production and R&D, and the development of production jigs and equipment upgrades. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced mechatronics engineers and gain exposure to bespoke technologies including high-voltage electrospinning machines, precision motion systems, mechanical conversion equipment, and environmental control systems.
Type of Position: The company are considering a 3-month contract to ensure the candidate's skills and cultural fit align with our requirements. Following a successful contract period, we intend to offer a permanent position.

POSITION INFO:
Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- BTech in Mechanical Engineering or National Diploma (N6) in Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering.
- Electrical trade test or coursework (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
Experience:- 3+ years’ hands-on experience in an engineering technician or similar role in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
- Exposure to both mechanical and basic electrical systems.
- Experience supporting a team with prototyping, machine builds, or custom jig/tool fabrication.
Technical Skills:- Proficient with mechanical tools, hand tools, and workshop equipment (lathe, mill, drill press, grinders, etc.). Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Competence in 3D CAD modeling using Fusion 360 and/or SolidWorks for component design and jig development.
- Familiarity with motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, and basic automation components.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting and understanding of low-voltage safety. Competence in maintaining equipment logs and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:â
Equipment Support & Maintenanceâ Conduct corrective and preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical production equipment.
â Respond quickly to breakdowns and provide hands-on troubleshooting and repair support.
â Perform equipment verification, calibration, and servicing activities.
â Maintain maintenance records and logs according to QMS requirements.
â
Equipment Design, Fabrication & Prototypingâ Contribute to the design and development of jigs, fixtures, and machinery to support production and R&D needs. Assist in the prototyping, testing, and iterative improvement of new equipment. Modify and improve existing systems to enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency. Participate in design review sessions and assist with technical documentation (manuals, SOPs, WI).
â Production & R&D Technical Supportâ Provide technical assistance during production and R&D runs.
â Work cross-functionally with process engineers, R&D scientists, and production teams to ensure seamless equipment operation.
