Fleet Assistant

SUMMARY:
Our client, who is based in Irene, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Fleet Assistant to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functionality, cleanliness, and upkeep of their odour control and dosing systems. This role requires hands-on technical skills, a commitment to safety, and a proactive approach to maintenance and servicing tasks. The role is contractual basis.

POSITION INFO:
Requirements:

• Must have the ability to read and write in English
• At least 2-4 years relative experience working with trucks or heavy-duty vehicles
• Basic knowledge of diesel engines and vehicle maintenance
• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks (e.g. truck cleaning, inspections)
• Attention to detail and ability to follow inspection checklists accurately
• Able to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
• Strong sense of responsibility and reliability in handling company vehicles
• Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license (Code 10 or higher preferred, but not mandatory)
• Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules. Required to be on standby and work overtime as needed
• Preferably someone who has their own transportation
• Computer literate

• Conduct routine vehicle inspections on trucks to ensure they meet safety and operational standards
• Perform quality checks and report any faults, damages, or maintenance needs
• Must have basic technical knowledge of trucks, including mechanical components and safety features
• Must be able to refuel trucks carefully and safely
• Accurately record diesel and petrol usage for each refuelling session
• Maintain logs showing how much fuel was filled, for which specific truck and company vehicle
• Monitor fuel usage patterns and report any irregularities or possible wastage
• Perform cleaning and washing of trucks to ensure vehicles are kept in a presentable and roadworthy condition
• Assist with pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify any immediate issues
• Keep the yard and vehicle area clean and organised
• Good understanding of diesel usage and handling
• Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance tasks
