JOB DESCRIPTION:

GM FINANCE

Our national client is looking for a GM Finance, based at their East London operation, reporting to the Group CEO. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the planning, directing and controlling of the financial functions of the group company and subsidiaries. This includes preparing the budgets; conducting financial analysis and preparing financial reports; developing and implementing an effective system of accounting; and maintaining accurate and current legislation records.

Main Activities:

  • Provide financial information and guidance to Management and the Board of Directors;
  • Participate in strategic and financial planning;
  • Research, prepare and submit the annual budget;
  • Prepare detailed reports on financial and administrative matters;
  • Perform the Treasury function on behalf of the Group and Subsidiaries
  • Attend strategic meetings and make presentations.
  • Provide comptrollership (responsible for supervising the quality of accounting and financial reporting) functions in order to ensure finances are managed according to legislation, policies and procedures and International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Manage accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records;
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports and statements;
  • Provide financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership;
  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Assessment of capital projects;
  • Manage, develop and implement tax strategy and plan;
  • Manage daily and long-term cash flow;
  • Develop and implement purchasing practices and monitor the purchasing system;
  • Vet and approve tender documents and administer contracts;
  • Ensure all agreements franchisor, banks and other are current with a special focus on financial implications;
  • Assist Management in resolving contractual and commercial problems;
  • Continuously work to strategically expand, preserve or improve the company’s procedures, standards or policies while sticking to business ethics and regulatory guidelines;
  • Working with contract managers and keeping abreast of areas that are not in keeping with financial regulation practices;
  • Respond to auditors’ comments concerning finances and operations and oversee required action to address deficiencies;
  • Ensure that all stakeholders, such as administration, operations and finance understand and adhere to contractual obligations; reflecting them accurately;
  • Co-ordinate and provide the necessary information and report to the Bankers under the relevant Finance Facility requirements;
  • Ensure the completion and submission of Statutory, Government and Industry requested statistical data;
  • Provide leadership and direction to Finance staff to ensure efficient use of human resources.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Evaluate the performance of, and provide training and development opportunities for, Finance staff;
  • Provide leadership by delegating tasks, responding to staff enquiries and providing overall direction to direct reports.

Qualifications and Skills:

The GM Finance at Executive Management level would have attained a professional accounting designation (CA(SA),) from a recognised accounting program, and have a minimum of five years of Financial Management and audit experience.

Must have experience in leading, mentoring and developing a finance team.
