JOB SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for an experienced Group Nursing Services Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Group Nursing Services Manager is responsible for the planning of staffing resources, on-going and systematic gathering and assimilation of data relating to the delivery of quality nursing and patient care services. In collaboration with the Hospital Managers, Nursing managers and Medical team, Nursing team and other Health Service practitioners, will work to develop Quality Improvement tools, reporting and process improvement strategies to improve clinical care and enhance patient safety. The Group Nursing Services Manager will help lead the development of Evidence based Best Practices as directed by the organizational strategic goals and will support the JMH overall quality improvement efforts. The Group nursing services manager is responsible for the professional development of nursing staff and will address the professional and ethical issues related to the scope of practice of the nurse with SANC. Ensures processes in place to attain mandated CPD’s on an annual basis for the company.

  1. Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree with a qualification in nursing administration, midwifery and nursing education or equivalent with current SANC registration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with staff and others contacted in the course of the work.
  • Promote staff awareness of the organization''''s medical quality improvement initiatives and quality outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines, and work under pressure.

  1. Years/ Months of Relevant Experience Required

  • Over 10 years’ experience in nursing management.
  • Knowledge of health care related laws and regulations.
  • Experience with healthcare quality improvement, clinical research, informatics, and continuous quality improvement principles and practices.
  • Experience abstracting clinical information from medical records.
  • The ability to appropriately evaluate medical records and other health care data.
  • Organized, accurate, detail-oriented.
  • Experienced with the use of Windows-based PC applications with emphasis on word processing, database, and spread sheet software (e.g., MS Word and Excel and PowerPoint).

  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

5.1 Group Nursing, Professional and Ethical issues

- Liaises with Nursing professional bodies, representing the nurses, SANC, DOH, and CHE

- Maintains leading-edge knowledge of contemporary healthcare, professional, ethical, quality and infection matter that affect patient care and staff related issues.

- Keeping JMH in line with latest trends and development in patient care and staff professional and ethical issues.

- Networks at National and local level with professional groups and forums to link patient care processes and staff development and educational outcomes.

5.2 Group Quality and Patient Safety initiatives

- Creates quality improvement processes, policies and manuals as needed.

- Helps to develop a culture of patient centred, data driven care, with high reliability of clinical processes.

- Management of the processes of continuous quality improvement through relationships with clinical providers, specialists, and ancillary departments.

- Identify hospital-wide opportunities for clinical quality process improvement, including formal studies related to organizational performance.

- Interface with pharmacy staff in establishment of medication and prescribing quality initiatives.

- Monitor monthly KPI’s on quality and patient safety initiatives

5.3 Group Infection Control

- Implements the national and group infection control strategy for the company

- Appoints Link nurses for each hospital to oversee the daily infection control related issues

- Plans and implements evidence based best care practices for the reduction of hospital acquired infections

- Conducts monthly meetings and track and trends infection related issues in the group

- Monitors infection outbreak and ensures that the DOH notification process is followed.

- Ensures Waste management protocols are applied appropriately

- Ensures adequate controls and reporting structures are in place to monitor infection.

- Monitors the companies Antibiotic stewardship project and provides data to DOH and appropriate forums.

5.4 Group Clinical Audits

- Participate in internal, local, or regional improvement projects and initiatives as needed to improve the Group’s performance as it relates to clinical quality and R158 for annual relicensing of hospitals.

- Develop structured auditing criteria of medical records to determine compliance with standards of clinical care.

- Develops plans to measure and manage, track and trend quality and infection control outcomes

Group Nursing Education

- Works with the Medical /Nursing Teams to define and oversee specific educational objectives for developing awareness and support for quality programs and services through consultation with department heads and managers.

- Ensures all nursing staff meet mandatory nursing education requirements such as CPD and BLS.

5.5 Group Nursing Staff Health

- Co-ordinates and ensure that staff medicals at entrance, periodical and at exit are met according to the JMH policy and relevant laws and legislations

- Monitors critical equipment registers and high-risk clinical equipment and PPE’s, as part of surveillance and audit of compliance as per the Occupational Health and Safety act . (OHS)

- Ensures JMH staff have annual TB surveillance at JMH hospitals and necessary follow-up medicals.

5.6 Group Admin and Reporting

- Communicate updates and new information to Medical Leadership, Clinical Leadership and direct care providers; monitors and ensures compliance with medical protocols, policies and procedures

- Prepares QMS reports for the JMH group that includes outcomes of quality, infection control and customer services.

- Plan, leads and manages monthly QA meetings, providing pertinent data and trends relative to medical services to QA Committee’s and at management meetings.

- Prepares reports for clinical governance, medical aids and JMH Ethics Committee

5.7 Group Visits

- Perform internal clinical audit in the various hospitals.

- Educate providers regarding best clinical quality practices as required.

- Investigate clinical quality issues and work with the NSM on resolutions.

5.8 Group Nursing Projects

- Represent quality interests in the development of an electronic system for staff education and development.

- Assist with the design and implementation of clinical informatics to enable the care process. This will require close collaboration with departments such as Information Systems and Medical Records department, as well as with the department managers.

- Introduction of specialised group forums for JMH hospitals to keep updated with latest trends in specialised nursing care and legislative requirements.

5.9 Group Clinical Risk Management

- Promote on-going proactive reduction of safety risks to patients in the design and redesign of organizational processes, functions and services using quality and performance improvement model.

- Oversee and maintain guidelines to monitor and report written documentation for quality measures (Benchmarks, LSI’s and KPI’s, track and trend risks)

5.10 Group Recruitment and Selection

- Review the master nurse staffing plan bi-annually and as required to meet the nurse staffing needs of the organisation.

- Work with Human Resource department in the recruitment of skilled staff for existing and new developments and projects

- Ensure nursing productivity hours are effectively managed and skills match the job required to ensure patient safety.

5.11 Group Nursing Education and Training

- Ensure all JMH nursing staff meet mandatory education requirements for annual practicing license (APC)

- Ensure specialised staff development through formal education and training and accreditation of JMH facilities for new nursing curriculum.

- All emergency training needs are met with frequent in unit drills to ensure competency.

5.12 Group Nursing Policy Formulation and Implementation

- Collaborate with Medical Team, Nursing Teams and other staff to improve quality of patient care.

- Formulates guidelines, work procedures to facilitate clinical nursing care.

- Ensures that JMH has all the relevant clinical policies and procedures in place to meet customer needs and stakeholder requirements.

5.13 Group Nursing Governance and Medical Ethics

- Support participation in national program recognition as directed by the Board.

- Co-ordinates and represents JMH at the Medical ethics review on a monthly basis.

- Review laws, regulations, and literature to determine areas that need to be assessed to ensure standards required by OHSC, DOH, DOL, OHS, MCC, CDC, SANC and other statutory requirements (medical related) and accrediting bodies
