Join diverse & decentralised JSE Industrial Listed Group which specialises in the importation and distribution of high quality branded goods mainly into the Southern African region.  The 2 major consumer markets are the industrialised consumer sector and mining & manufacturing sector.  Furthermore, there are value added services that include product specification, technical advice, application and installation, training & troubleshooting.  The Group has a network of specialised Branches and Independent Distributors throughout Southern Africa to ensure product availability to its customers.  The Group consists of approximately 35 businesses that range in size & turnover.  The larger businesses have a dedicated Human Resources Specialist or Head (6 in total) and the smaller and less complicated businesses have an appointed employee who is responsible for HR & labour issues together with his/her other responsibilities.  There is only one HR Administrator at Head Office assisting this incumbent.  Although the candidate will be responsible for all the Group human resource issues in a highly decentralised environment, nevertheless, a major emphasis and drive will be to manage all transformation responsibilities.  The successful candidate will serve on the Group Executive Committee and report to a Group Executive. 

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:         

  • Transformation, HR Strategies & Implementation including: review & update Group’s transformation & HR strategies together with developing clear & realistic plans leading to transformation; set realistic targets aligned to BBBEE management control, skills development & procurement; transfer knowledge of BBBEE & HR legislation to relevant persons at the businesses.
  • Employment, Training & Succession Planning including: assist businesses in identification, assessment, development planning & review of successes to align with transformation strategy; regularly update succession plan; ensure businesses have appropriate training programmes & initiatives; support new acquisitions with transformation.
  • Compliance including: to relevant legislation; monitor labour & BBBEE legislation changes & updates; co-ordinate Group’s annual BBBEE process and compile BBBEE submission; monitor compliance in all businesses.
  • Reporting including:  track BBBEE contributions & monitor score card; work with the businesses to ensure accurate plan submission & reporting to relevant bodies (EE & WSP/ATR); regularly communicate progress to EXCO.
  • Human Resources & Industrial Relations – support businesses in dealing with HR & IR matters on an ad hoc basis.


  • Relevant degree/diploma in HR and requisite experience from an Industrial Group which is decentralised, as the candidate will be driving both transformation and Human Resources without the support of a Head Office HR Department.  This means that the successful incumbent must be highly proactive, highly hands-on and with an ability to communicate & create interpersonal relationships at executive, management & workforce level equally.  The ability to positively influence & explain the multiplicity of transformation & HR requirements cannot be underestimated.
  • The candidate needs to be highly collaborataive rather than prescriptive and must be able to interact with a mix of personalities which include engineers, blue & white collar workers, commercial & administrative personnel and similar.
  • The candidate’s experience must be superior in all areas of transformation as outlined above, in addition to HR and have the necessary knowledge & understanding of legislation & requirements.
