My client in GQ, is seeking to email a Legal and Compliance Lead to join their company.
We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Legal & Compliance Lead to oversee and manage all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the organization. This individual will play a critical role in contract management, credit oversight, dispute resolution, legislative compliance, and insurance governance.
Duties include:
1. Legal Contracts Management
Draft, negotiate, and review all internal and external legal contracts.
Ensure all contracts comply with current legal and regulatory frameworks.
Standardize contract templates across business units to streamline legal reviews.
2. Legal Dispute Management
Act as the lead in managing and resolving legal disputes, whether commercial, operational, or employment-related.
Liaise with external counsel when necessary.
Maintain a risk register of legal exposures and active matters.
3. Credit Risk Oversight
Serve as the final reviewer and approver of all credit applications.
Set legal criteria and frameworks for assessing customer and partner creditworthiness.
Work closely with the finance and operations teams to ensure robust credit practices.
4. Insurance Governance
Oversee the insurance claims process from initiation to resolution.
Review and maintain adequate insurance coverage for all business operations and assets.
Liaise with brokers and insurers to ensure optimal policies and claims handling.
5. Legislative & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with all applicable South African laws and industry regulations
Conduct regular compliance audits and training sessions for staff.
Maintain compliance registers and submit reports as required.
Minimum Requirements:
LLB or equivalent legal degree; admission as an attorney is advantageous.
Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in legal, compliance, or risk management roles.
Strong knowledge of South African commercial, corporate, and regulatory law.
Prior experience handling insurance, credit, and regulatory matters in a corporate or financial setting.
