Maintenance Manager – Bellville, Cape Town – Salary depends on qualifications and experience
An established company based in Bellville is seeking a skilled and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of a busy meat production facility and multiple retail butcher stores. This is a high-pressure, high-stakes role that requires technical know-how, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to keep operations running like a well-oiled machine - quite literally.
The successful candidate will manage all installations, repairs, preventive maintenance schedules, technician teams, and ensure optimal performance of machinery, equipment, and infrastructure. This is not a clipboard-and-watch kind of job - you need to be in the trenches with the team, solving problems, planning ahead, and keeping the chaos under control with solid leadership and grit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement efficient maintenance procedures
- Manage daily inspections and checklists to identify and resolve issues timeously
- Coordinate technicians and allocate workload for optimal output
- Oversee installations, repairs, and after-hour breakdown responses
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and all related documentation
- Monitor and manage spare parts inventory and place orders as required
- Strategically plan repairs to control costs within budget
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and job card records
- Ensure health and safety, as well as food safety protocols, are enforced
- Maintain effective communication between departments, stores, and service providers
- Cultivate productive working relationships with internal teams and contractors
- Lead with calm and authority in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
- Red Seal Millwright/Electrician
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a maintenance management role
- Proven experience in managing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general factory maintenance
- Experience working with meat processing equipment is highly advantageous
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
- High level of computer literacy
- Ability to multitask, prioritise, and report on activity effectively
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
- Physically fit and able to work in a demanding production environment
- Available for after-hour breakdowns and emergencies
