CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The Department of Architecture at Nelson Mandela University invites applications for the nGAP Lecturer position. This role is designed for a committed and passionate individual to contribute to the advancement of architectural education, with a focus on integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS). The appointed lecturer will engage in teaching, research, and community- driven projects, fostering a dynamic learning environment that aligns with the university's values of sustainability, social justice, and transformation
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Deliver innovative and engaging courses in architecture, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous Technology Solutions.
- Contribute to research in the integration of Indigenous Knowledge (IK) with architectural practiceParticipate in curriculum development and course design, ensuring alignment with current educational and professional trends.
- Engage in academic community outreach, fostering relationships with local communities and global academic partners.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to postgraduate students, promoting excellence in research and practice.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging content within the architectural curriculum, particularly in the areas of Indigenous Knowledge.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging with students and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for the position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A Master’s degree (M+5) in Architecture (or an equivalent qualification) with a minimum average of 70% pass mark for the Master’s degree.
- Relevant professional experience in the field of architecture, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
- Professional registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) or registered as a candidate architect.
- Demonstrated commitment to transformation, sustainability, and inclusive education.
- Commit to completion of a PhD/Doctorate.
