JOB DESCRIPTION:

Operations/Projects Manager (Manufacturing Environment)

Permanent position based in West Rand (Roodepoort)

Salary R700 000 – R1.2m

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree Chemical/Industrial Engineering. Will also consider Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electronic/Electrical Engineering.

Advantageous qualifications: MBA/MEM/Operation management/Project management/Business related

Experience:

10+ years Industry experience in manufacturing/food processing/chemical processing/FMCG environment (5+ at Management level)

Experience with design (Process/Mechanical/Control systems)

Advantageous experience/exposure: Embedded systems/C language programming/Instrumentation/PLC’s/Automation/IIoT

Demonstrate an understanding of:

  • Process, electrical and mechanical engineering principles and control systems
  • Mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Heat transfer
  • Production, principles, methodologies and processes
  • Quality Control in the Production environment
  • FSSC2200 & OHSA principles
  • Change management - Implementation, and management of changes impacting both internal and external parties
  • Project management - Implementation, and management of projects involving both internal and external parties

Duties:

  • Overall accountability for Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, Logistics & Laboratory
  • Incorporate a good balance between delegating and hands on management
  • Business Planning:
    • Contribute to the development of annual and longer-term business plans
    • Forecast performance against business key performance indicators;
    • Develop business cases for key activities/projects;
    • Estimate the financial and human resources required to deliver performance targets.
    • Develop business processes and technology management
  • Budgeting and Costing: Develop and/or deliver capital project budget plans with guidance from senior colleagues for plant upgrades and modifications
  • Performance Management:
    • Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility;
    • Set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these;
    • Take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
  • Operational Compliance: Monitor and review performance and behaviours within area of responsibility to identify and resolve non-compliance with the organization''s policies and relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct.
  • Principal Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the principal relationships within the area of responsibility, identifying and communicating opportunities for system improvement that may enhance the management of principal relationships.
  • Organizational Capability Building: Identify the team''s individual development needs.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives on productivity, costs and reducing waste.

Key Result Areas:

  • Provide input into the manufacturing strategy
  • Manage the production & processing facilities and processes
  • Manage raw and packaging materials and products
  • Monitor Capacity Utilisation, make recommendations and implement improvements
  • Monitor inefficiencies, make recommendations and implement improvements
  • Monitor Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), make recommendations and implement improvements
  • Monitor and keep up to date with changes in legislation and ensure compliance
  • Plan resources required and daily priorities of the unit per the production plan
  • Achieve production targets as per the Production Plan
  • Optimise the plant and achieve prescribed operational efficiencies and identify and eliminate unaccounted losses
  • Compose and manage a project team for a technical project to deliver project objectives
  • Implement Lean 6 Sigma black belt projects and initiatives
  • Drive process optimisation and continuous improvements
