An exploration drilling company needs a Quality Control Chemical Engineer to join the Engineering team in Mokgalakwena.
The Quality Control Engineer will be responsible for enhancing and improving the drilling muds usage and optimizing the drilling fluid articulation systems. The Quality Control Engineer will also manage the overall use of, the testing, management and study or drill rods to optimize the use thereof and investigate underperforming rods. The incumbent will also be responsible to the management and quality assurance of fuel used on site and compile reports on burn rates and overall management of fuel on site.
The Chemical Engineer will research and test new bits and management of current ground engaging tools on site to improve life and reduce overall cost.
Provide support to operational engineering and production; support and coordinate process trials, testing, experiments and improvements, and ensure successful transfer of all projects from R&D to manufacturing and roll out. Additional assignments and duties may be required. The position will evolve from management of test-work and related work in a feasibility study through to design and eventually operations management.
Primary Responsibilities:
The fundamental responsibilities for this position are to lead the investigation, design, engineering, and commissioning of chemical and drilling muds processes for the separation, of drill cuttings from drilling fluids. Management and optimization of the use of drilling rods and bits and manage on site fuel consumption and quality.
The candidate may have both theoretical and practical industrial chemical experience in consulting/contracting, and/or operations, and may also have a strong academic background. The applicant will have demonstrated a keenness to learn new knowledge and technologies, and an ability to develop new innovative processes. The following experience and knowledge should be in the applicant’s background:
- Fundamental theoretical and practical understanding of the industrial chemistry
- Experience in the testing and design of technologies such as various types materials and chemicals
- Experience in flowsheet design, estimation of capital and operating costs, and other aspects of feasibility studies including industrial chemical plant operations experience.
Experience:
- Experience in mining industry operations especially relating industrial chemistry and process flows.
- Practical experience in start-up
- Environmental aspects of industrial operations, treatment and disposal of chemical tailings and other waste
- Risk analysis and Quality
- Management of engineering contractors and consulting
- Experience in development and implementation of ISO systems at operating plants
- The position is based full time at Mogalakwena Platinum and the incumbent will be required to stay in Mokopane.
- The position will also require extensive travel to the planned drill sites and test
Education:
- Minimum Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Metallurgy degree
- Experience in Process Safety Management knowledge and experience
- Experience in the preparation chemical tests, capital cost estimate operating cost estimates
- Experience in directing and managing people in cross functional organizations and projects teams

- A practical and hands-on chemical engineer or hydro metallurgist
