SUMMARY:
Short Description / Purpose of Job
The Senior Technical Manager's role is critical in ensuring that portfolio of complex mining related projects such as ventilation shaft systems, bunkers, water systems, etc. are implemented efficiently and effectively, provide a technical sound solution, safe environment for employees, service providers and end-users, and comply with relevant regulations. He/She must possess a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, leadership abilities, and a focus on safety and quality to excel in this role. He/she must be able to integrate activities outside of the Operating Function to align on required Specifications, translate these requirements into documents to be used for tendering processes.
This role also requires the incumbent to be Legally appointed as a Sect 2.13.1 Engineer as stipulated in the Mines Health and Safety Act. In this role, he/she is working with a diverse team, including a Safety Team, other legal appointed employees to ensure work is conducted while adhering to the required Legislations, Rules and standards in place.
Relevant Service Providers will also be appointed to support this individual. The individual must be able to develop, maintain and improve systems to ensure compliance to relevant legislation and standards.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Provide technical expertise and leadership to guide the design, development, and implementation of complex technical projects. This involves staying up to date with the latest technologies, and best practices.
Take a lead role in planning technical projects, defining project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements. Oversee project execution to ensure milestones are met and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Work closely with other functions, departments, teams, and stakeholders to integrate technical requirements with overall business goals. Collaborate with non-technical teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
Identify potential risks and challenges in technical projects and develop strategies to mitigate and address them effectively. Ensure integrated risk management is effectively done.
Ensure that technical projects meet the required quality standards and adhere to relevant regulations and industry best practices.
Oversee technical and safety teams, providing mentorship, coaching, and support to team members. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the technical unit.
Manage SHERQ requirements on projects; Manage project within Sasol BD&I and PMBOK boundaries.
Ensure comprehensive change management is done.
Ensure complete and up to date project administration.
Accountable to deliver technical requirements to comply to all 10 knowledge areas as described in Project Management Body of Knowledge.
The ability to lead all stakeholder engagements with confidence and decisiveness.
Being a good team player to achieve common goals, being able to fit the required roles, knowing when to contribute and when to listen.
All these actions are governed by the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA). And where the MHSA is not sufficient, all the other legalisations, such as OHS act, NEMA etc. is applicable, and the incumbent will have to have the ability to design and function between these relevant Legislations.
POSITION INFO:
Formal Education
B Tech / B Eng. Mechanical or Electrical.
Added advantage – Project management qualification.
Extensive knowledge of Mine and Health Safety Act (MHSA)
Min Experience
5 + years capital infrastructure project experience i.e. design review, compilation of technical specifications
2+ years working in a mining environment or similar
Certification & Professional Membership
Government Certificate of Competence for Mines (Engineering) – Must
