Sustainability Manager

POSITION INFO:

The Sustainability Manager will lead and coordinate sustainability initiatives across a diverse group of subsidiaries. This role is critical to driving environmental responsibility, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing corporate governance in line with local and international frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

Group-Level Sustainability Oversight

• Implement sustainability risk and control matrices (RACMs) across subsidiaries.

• Develop and drive strategies to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

• Build a framework to enhance Scope 3 emissions disclosure.

• Monitor the implementation of climate resilience plans.

• Lead the alignment process with IFRS S1 and S2 requirements.

• Provide monthly sustainability reports and updates.

• Coordinate sustainability audits as required.

Board and Governance Support

• Prepare governance and compliance reports in response to new or draft legislation.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all sustainability-related queries and compliance matters.

ESG Reporting and Management

• Collate, analyse, and report ESG data for internal and external stakeholders.

• Facilitate the external assurance process of ESG metrics.

• Lead sustainability reporting for the Social and Ethics Committee.

• Contribute to the Integrated Report using standards such as CDP, GRI, TCFD, and SDGs.

• Manage carbon footprint assessments.

• Support corporate affairs in responding to ESG rating agencies (e.g., IRAS, MSCI, Sustainalytics).

• Consolidate ESG data from subsidiaries for board-level reporting.

• Organize and prepare for ESG and sustainability conferences.

B-BBEE Compliance and Reporting

• Oversee the B-BBEE audit verification process and consolidate reporting.

• Ensure ongoing compliance with the B-BBEE Act and Codes.

• Track and respond to developments in B-BBEE legislation and transformation initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A relevant degree

• Minimum 5 years' experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, or related risk and compliance roles.

• Strong knowledge of sustainability frameworks (GRI, CDP, TCFD, IFRS S1 & S2).

• Familiarity with South African regulatory frameworks including Companies Act, King IV, and B-BBEE Codes.

• Demonstrated experience in ESG data analysis and reporting.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven ability to coordinate across multiple business units and manage complex projects.
