Tax Administrator

SUMMARY:
Our client, a well-established firm of Chartered Accountants, is seeking a capable and detail-oriented Tax Administrator to support their tax compliance and advisory teams.

This role is central to ensuring smooth workflow, timely submissions, and efficient client communication within the firm’s tax function.

The ideal candidate will have experience in professional services administration, with a strong understanding of SA tax deadlines and processes.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate client tax records and databases
• Track and manage key deadlines for tax returns and submissions (including personal tax, corporation tax, and VAT)
• Liaise directly with HMRC on behalf of clients, including authorisation and query resolution
• Prepare and submit 64-8 agent authorisation forms and manage HMRC agent services
• Collate documentation required for tax return preparation (e.g., income records, expense summaries, P60s)
• Monitor workflow for the tax team, flagging urgent deadlines and outstanding items
• Draft and send client correspondence, ensuring accuracy and professionalism
• Provide administrative support during the annual tax return cycle and other key periods
• Assist with submission of returns through tax software and HMRC portals
• Support invoicing, billing and internal record keeping related to tax clients

Essential Requirements:

• Previous experience in an administrative role within an accountancy or professional services environment
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• High attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
• Familiarity with HMRC systems and online services
• Ability to handle confidential client information with professionalism and discretion

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• Experience within a tax administration role
• Working knowledge of tax software such as CCH, Digita, TaxCalc, or IRIS
• Understanding of UK tax processes and deadlines (Self Assessment, VAT, CT600)
• Experience using practice management software
• Interest in pursuing a longer-term career in tax or accounting (study support may be considered)
