Technical Sales Engineer (Engineering/Projects)

SUMMARY:
The Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for assisting national and international sales for the portfolio. This includes selection and analysis of potential projects, preparation of tenders and quotations, technical and commercial negotiations with customers. The Technical Sales Engineer coordinates the technical and commercial requirements for such a sales projects internally and therefore needs good technical knowledge.
The Technical Sales Engineer requires a firm understanding of the national & international market and the competitors and therefore needs market knowledge to identify customer’s needs, plan the required process and equipment as well as the required sub-systems and services.

Permanent position based in Sandton with extensive travelling

Qualifications (typical):
Degree or diploma in Engineering (Pyrometallurgy or Mechanical).

Experience:
Sound experience in sales activities in a project engineering environment.
Proven track record of sales strategy formulation.
5 years’ experience in an engineering/project sales environment.
Understanding of SAFs, its components and ancillaries.
Technological advanced and oriented.
Market & commodity trends and competitor knowledge.
Early recognition of potential risks and business impact.
Contract law and management.
Project management.
Risk appreciation and management.
Sales and negotiation techniques.

Skills:
Must have above average computer and technical engineering skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES IN THIS ROLE:
Analyse tenders and inquiries and select the required sales activities.
Study customer documents and prepare related process lines and equipment.
Consulting with Engineers and required technical personnel to define the required process route and equipment.
Prepare technical and commercial specifications for the sales projects.
Prepare cost estimation for the projects.
Presenting the technical and commercial proposal to the customers.
Negotiate tender and contract terms and conditions to meet both clients’ and company needs.
Support marketing / sales activities by attending trade shows, conferences, and other marketing / sales events.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education while visiting potential customers.
Work on after-sales support services and provide technical back up as required.
Upkeep of the SMS customer relations management (CRM) tool.
Identify business opportunities and sales channels.
Prepare Marketing materials including the website.
