Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$109,300.00 - $180,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a (Gen AI) Data Engineer I to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining robust, scalable, and efficient solutions to support our Generative AI initiatives. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers to design and implement innovative data-driven applications and systems.

What Will You Do?

Develop, and deploy solutions for Gen AI data engineering activities, including data ingestion, processing, storage, and analysis.
Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to create Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and integrate LLM models into production-grade applications.
Develop APIs and microservices to facilitate data access and integration across various components of the Gen AI platform.
Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our software systems.
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and Gen AI, applying them to enhance our platform.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Four years of programming/development experience preferred.
Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role, with a strong focus on data engineering and Gen AI applications.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
Experience with front-end frameworks/libraries like React.js and back-end frameworks/libraries.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and related services (e.g., AWS Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, Redshift).
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
Strong understanding of database systems and data processing frameworks (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Databricks).
Good understanding and experience of Gen AI concepts like Agentic Frameworks, RAG, LLM, MCP, Agentic AI, Chunking, and Hyper-parameters.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.

What is a Must Have?

Bachelors degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.
Four years of data engineering or equivalent experience.
