Your work may be used for banking/finance, insurance, manufacturing, or retail applications. You might also create business or process models for new systems to be developed in the future; for example, you might model how a bank works so that its information can be easily translated into computer programs.

Responsibilities of a RPG Developer

  • Create libraries of routines and utilities
  • Write programs using RPG syntax and code to create objects, reports, forms, menus, dialogue boxes, macros, procedures, and other items for use with a database system
  • Debug programs and troubleshoot problems with existing systems
  • Retest programs after making changes
  • Keep up with changing programming trends in the field of RPG

RPG Developer Skills & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science
  • Experience working with RPG as a developer
  • 5+ years of experience in RPG programming and design
  • Proficiency with RPG, SQL and RDi
  • Knowledge of programming practices and techniques, especially in designing, coding, testing and debugging applications, including the ability to write code that is efficient, easy to read and maintainable
  • Proven understanding of relational database concepts and principles
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Skills

You will need excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and strong attention to detail. You will also need a keen interest in technology, a passion for programming and the ability to think creatively when developing solutions for customers.
