AREA MANAGER – FARMING

SUMMARY:
Port Elizabeth or Uitenhage Area – Eastern Cape: Our client is looking for an Area Manager to join the team.
 
This position will report directly to the Head of Production and will be responsible to oversee the farming operations of roughly 500 hectares.
 
Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

POSITION INFO:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Tertiary education in an agricultural related field
• 10 years’ experience in citrus farming
• 3 years’ experience at an Area / Division manager level
• IT literate
• Ability to communicate in English and Afrikaans (verbal and written)

• Responsible for the crop estimation process: liaise with farm managers to obtain all information, consolidate information and link with Supply Chain to convey information for planning purposes. Continuously update information as estimation changes.

• Irrigation program
• Spray program
• Prune program
• Manage projects when appropriate
• Harvesting plan – it is important that the Area Manager plays a strong leadership role to ensure that harvesting is happening as required. The Area Manager must also constantly liaise with supply chain and the pack house to ensure the coordination between harvesting, packing and shipping
• Prepare, submit and manage the farming budget.
• Promote best practices and technology to farm managers
• Compliance responsibilities for example, HSE, audit requirements, etc.
• Responsible for the farm maintenance plan
• Set, implement and manage the Key Performance Indicators for his or her responsible area and team
