ACCOUNTANT

POSITION INFO:
  Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial administration of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that routine accounting functions are completed accurately, timeously and in accordance with accounting standards. This is a hands-on accounting role suited to an individual who is comfortable working across the full accounting cycle, from capturing customer invoices and managing debtors and creditors through to assisting with reconciliations, month-end procedures and management accounts. The ideal candidate will be sharp, analytical, commercially aware and highly detail-oriented , with the ability to work independently and take ownership of their responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Administration Manage the day-to-day accounting functions of the business. Prepare and issue customer invoices accurately and timeously. Capture and process supplier invoices. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation. Allocate and process bank transactions. Perform regular bank reconciliations. Maintain the debtors and creditors ledgers. Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies. Follow up on outstanding receivables and customer account queries. Prepare payment runs and supporting documentation for approval. Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules. Assist with month-end close procedures and accounting schedules. Assist with the preparation of management accounts and financial reports. Assist with audits, tax submissions and other statutory requirements. Ensure financial information is accurate, complete and up to date. Stock & Operational Administration Oversee and assist with warehouse stock releases and related documentation. Assist with monthly stock reconciliations. Investigate stock variances and discrepancies. Assist with general operational administration where required. Ensure relevant financial and stock documentation is properly maintained. Trade Finance, Imports & Foreign Currency Assist with financial administration relating to trade finance transactions. Assist with customs and import-related accounting documentation. Process and reconcile foreign currency transactions. Ensure transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately supported. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders regarding imports, payments and financial documentation. General Assist management with financial information and ad hoc reporting. Provide support with management accounts and financial analysis. Identify discrepancies, errors and potential financial risks. Assist with improving accounting processes and controls. Perform other financial and administrative duties as required. Minimum Requirements BCom Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. 3–5 years' relevant accounting experience , although candidates with 5+ years' experience are strongly preferred . Strong understanding of general accounting principles. Experience working across multiple accounting functions, including: Debtors Creditors Invoicing Bank reconciliations Stock reconciliations Fixed assets Month-end procedures Experience with accounting software. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Ability to work independently and take ownership of the full accounting process. Advantageous Qualifications & Experience CA(SA), CIMA or SAIPA qualification would be highly advantageous. Additional accounting\/finance qualification after a BCom degree would be advantageous. Experience with SAP accounting software . Experience in Trade Finance . Experience in Customs and Imports . Experience with foreign currency transactions . Experience assisting with management accounts . Experience in an import\/export, trading, logistics or similar environment. The ideal candidate will be: A qualified BCom graduate , ideally with an additional professional or postgraduate accounting qualification. Ideally have 5+ years' relevant accounting experience . A strong academic performer with good numerical and analytical ability. Sharp, intelligent and commercially minded . Comfortable with both detailed transactional accounting and higher-level financial reporting. Not afraid of hands-on\/basic accounting duties , including capturing customer invoices, processing supplier invoices and maintaining ledgers. Capable of progressing from transactional accounting through to assisting with management accounts and month-end reporting . Confident working with figures, reconciliations and financial data. Able to identify discrepancies and investigate problems independently. Proactive and willing to get involved in all aspects of the finance function.
