Assistant Accountant

POSITION INFO:
My client is seeking an Assistant Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to make an impact.

This role will provide critical support in financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance, ensuring the integrity of financial operations in a fast-paced environment.

This role is based in City Bowl, Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the day-to-day administration and maintenance of investment and project systems.
• Execute settlements for month-end closing.
• Provide weekly cash flow input for capital and operational projects.
• Maintain fixed asset registers.
• Review income and expenses before month-end close.
• Oversee inventory management and reporting.
• Prepare valid and accurate journals for the General Ledger.
• Complete monthly balance sheet and VAT reconciliations.
• Assist with financial analysis and commentary for monthly reporting.
• Prepare input schedules for statutory returns (Income Tax and VAT).
• Support the preparation of financial statements.
• Compile audit schedules for both internal and external audits.
• Provide backup support to fellow Assistant Accountants.
• Carry out ad hoc finance-related tasks as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

• B.Com Accounting preferred.
• National Diploma in Accounting or related qualification advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Knowledge of Income Tax and VAT legislation.
• Experience with SAP advantageous
