JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Lodge at Royal Malewane is The Royal Portfolio's very first property, and holds a very special place in the hearts of our guests, both old and new. The Assistant Lodge Manager here works alongside the Lodge Manager and Heads of Department to ensure we continue to create memorable experiences that will encourage our guests to return again and again, to this exceptional slice of paradise in the African bush. All of this to supports the purpose of The Royal Portfolio, which is "to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay." 

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership – staff recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, development and training, performance management, disciplinaries,
  • Hotel operations - ensure the smooth running of all departments around guest needs and movements
  • Budgeting - assisting departments and management to remain in budget for the year.
  • Guest Relations - ensuring positive guest feedback and being visible and accessible to guests 
  • Asset upkeep - ensuring functionality and maintenance of buildings, equipment, furniture, grounds, etc. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in a s star Lodge environment, living on-site, working extended cycles of 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off
  • Diploma or Degree in Hotel Management
  • 5-years’ experience in a management role within a 5 star environment
  • Including 2+ years spent as Restaurant Manager in a 5-star hotel/ restaurant
  • South African Wine Academy or WSET course completion
  • Strong Food & Beverage knowledge, and aware of trends in the industry
  • Experience working across all departments of the hotel operation
  • Fair knowledge of general maintenance
  • Opera and Micros proficiency, as well as Word, Excel, Outlook 
  • Ability to handle pressure, with a sense of urgency 
  • Works well within team environment and leads by example
  • Level 5 leader, level-headed and strong willed
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised
  • Approachable and caring in nature
  • Firm and assertive with fair disposition
  • Dedicated and driven individual who is ambitious
  • Mature attitude to business
  • Passionate about sustainability and the environment

It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio.

South African citizenship is advantageous. A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document.

All new appointments at The Royal Portfolio’s properties will need to show proof of vaccination against Covid 19.
