Assistant Maintenance Engineer - Heavy Industrial

POSITION INFO:

The Assistant Maintenance Engineer will understudy the Maintenance Engineer and will ultimately be groomed to take over the role of Maintenance Engineer responsible for both electrical and general plant mechanical maintenance, engineering projects, environmental management and GMR(2) responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities under the guidance of the Maintenance Engineer and Managing Director will include:

Projects:
Initiating, supervising and implementing various mechanical and electrical projects to improve plant utilisation, productivity, efficiency, quality standards and cost effectiveness.

Continuous Improvement
Adopt a philosophy of identifying and implementing, through consultation with line management, continuous improvement projects.

Scheduled Plant Maintenance:
Perform scheduled maintenance and preventative repairs for electrical and mechanical systems, equipment and machinery.

Troubleshoot Maintenance:
Conduct regular inspections, assess potential problems and initiate corrective actions / solutions before plant and machinery downtime occurs.

Breakdowns:
Identify cause of plant and machinery breakdowns and implement corrective measures which may necessitate working long and irregular hours.

Environmental Management:
Assist with ensuring that all local and national environmental laws including obtaining permits, monitoring compliance and improvement initiatives are carried out.

GMR(2):
Assist with all GMR(2) responsibilities including root cause analyses and investigation of incidents.

Supervisory Duties:
Supervising, delegating, training, developing, coaching and disciplining subordinate personnel.

Skills, Experience and Attributes
• 12 - 15 years plant maintenance experience preferably in a heavy industrial environment coupled with either a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification and Certificate of Competency (Govt ticket).
• Experience in Foundry Operations would be an added advantage;
• Strong people management / HR knowledge with experience of running a large department in a unionised environment;
• Planning and organizational management;
• Lean manufacturing;
• ISO 9001.

Remuneration
Circa R60 – R80k per month plus guaranteed 13th Cheque
