Assistant Manager (Wine Farm)

SUMMARY:
Our client, a wine farm in Paarl, Western Cape is looking for an Assistant Farm Manager to join their team.

Important: The position is available immediately and is for a fixed period only.

POSITION INFO:
Responsibilities
The Assistant Manager accepts he shall comply with the position and/or requirements that may be reasonably required to perform the job, from time to time, of a General Farm Manager which, inter alia, includes the following tasks:

Provide all necessary assistance and work to all relevant parties associated with the farm, as well as all relevant parties associated with the project in order to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Perform all relevant administration work required by the Employer including reporting to the accountant of the employer.
Assisting all relevant farm hands on the farm to perform their prescribed tasks such as, but not limited to, ordering supplies and/or materials for tractors, ordering stock, performing any duty that aids the staff on the farm, collecting fuel for the generators and all miscellaneous tasks which are associated with tasks designated to the farm hands on the farm.
Liaising and contracting, with the necessary consent from the employer, with third parties to perform services on the farm and/or deliver goods to the farm.
Assist the Project Manager of the project in coordinating schedules or any other duty that needs to be performed by the Project Manager of the project.
Aid in household affairs such as taking the staff of the farm shopping and/or transporting staff of the farm.
Any other reasonable tasks that the employer may request from the Assistant Manager.
The Assistant Manager will be required to perform any reasonably related tasks requested by the employer.
The Assistant Manager shall report to the employer’s representative and/or any of its designated representatives that may be appointed in the future.
The employee is employed on a probation basis for the first 3 months of employment to determine whether he possesses the necessary skills, personality and motivation to do the tasks for which he is employed.

Remuneration and Working Hours
The remuneration package will be reviewed annually based on performance and other factors considered appropriate by the employer and any adjustment thereof will be at the sole discretion of the employer.
Annual increases are not guaranteed.
Working Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 17:00 as requested by the employer.
The employee is entitled to a lunch break of 60 (sixty) minutes per day. The employer will indicate when such lunch break may be taken.
The nature of the job may however require the working of additional hours from time to time and it remains a reasonable instruction that the employee complete his daily duties before leaving for the day. Should the employee fail to comply with this instruction, disciplinary action will follow.
An annual performance bonus may be awarded during the birthday month of the employee, depending on personal performance and provided that the bonus, as well as the amount of the bonus, is not guaranteed and is solely at the discretion of the employer.
The employer has the right to change the method and period of payment. (i.e., Methods of payment: cash, cheque, direct deposit. Period of payment: weekly, fortnightly, monthly).
The working hours are determined by operational requirements and the employer reserves the right to change its composition.
Time off from work will be mutually arranged between the employer and employee to suit the operational requirements of the farm.
The employer is not always able to predict, with any degree of certainty, the duration and extent of the project.
The job includes the project as well as miscellaneous work. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, the contract duration will be finalized and will terminate upon completion of the project only, irrespective of the miscellaneous work.
The employment contract is purely based upon the completion of the project and the duration is not influenced in any manner by the miscellaneous work (day-to-day duties).

Leave
All applicable leave (annual, sick, and family responsibility) will be based on and applied as per Basic Conditions of Employement Act (BCEA.)

Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 with at least 3 years of relevant Farm Management experience.
Fluent in both Afrikaans and English.
Strong organisational skills.
Attention to detail.
Effective communication with people of various backgrounds.
Flexibility (in terms of work hours and being able to respond to unexpected happenings on the farm).
