JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • Day to day coordination of research-related activities including quality data collection, capturing, and analysis for the project

Location:

  • 08 Blackwood Avenue, Parktown - Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Become familiar with the project/topic area through literature reviews
  • Develop SOPs
  • Schedule appointments with health facility and field-based project staff and collect data
  • Conduct and/or manage relevant fieldwork activities
  • Manage quality data capture, and collection
  • Conduct in-depth interviews and focus group discussions
  • Support with the development of appropriate coding frameworks
  • Manage and assist with the capture of clinical lab data and resolve data clarification errors with staff
  • Publish, disseminate and present findings and results to stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to study protocols, GCP, and local requirements for the ethical conduct of research in human participants
  • Support the team with any other research-related activities
  • Complete all relevant project administration as and when required (i.e. participant reimbursements)
  • Document team meetings as and when required
  • Compile weekly reports on activities, progress, etc.
  • Compile research summaries and reports
  • Participation in all appropriate research-related meetings (internal and external)
  • Ensure site staff have the necessary tools and resources to conduct study activities
  • Ensure storage and archiving of data according to SOPs (electronic and hard copy data)
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Stay abreast with developments in research
  • Take ownership of driving your own career development by attending training and development sessions and relevant meetings
  • Attend training and development sessions such as journal club, seminars, writing series workshops, etc.
  • Attend to all staffing requirements and administration
  • Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates (fieldworkers) to ensure optimal staff utilization and maintenance of sound labor relations
  • Perform and facilitate performance development and assessments
  • Identify substandard performance by team members and take necessary corrective action
  • Coach and train subordinates and team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organization
  • Promote harmony, teamwork, and sharing of information

Required minimum education and training:

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health or equivalent
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluency in at least one African language spoken in South Africa preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to travel independently

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 1-year of working experience in a research (qualitative and/or quantitative) environment

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Certification in good clinical practice
  • Experience in scientific software and in writing publications will be an advantage
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Be tactful and respectful
  • Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
  • Good administrative skills
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
