SUMMARY:
Aviation Medical Assessor
POSITION INFO:
Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring ICAO compliance with regards to medical requirements, compliance of air ambulance operators, appropriate aviation medicine training of flight crew, oversight of airport clinics and first aid rooms and to participate in accident investigation.
Oversight of the medical certification processes and procedures
- Oversight on certification of aviation personnel submitted by DAME
- Ensure that accredited medical conclusions are reached by preparation and presentation of the Aeromedical committee in line Terms of Reference
- Conduct research to analyse trends and with implementation of aviation safety intervention strategies
- Evaluation of foreign medical records and validations
- Preparation of the enforcement the medical cases related non-compliant applicants and DAMEs for submission to the Legal Division
- Coordinate medical appeals specialist and conduct research related to the medical appeal process
- Coordinate & Participate in the training of Aerospace Medicine Course
- Initiate regulatory review in line with ICAO and International Best Practice, workshop and submit to CARCOM for approval and promulgation relating to medical certification
- Provide medical information and advice for accident investigations
- Conduct/develop checklist for practical flight test and oversight of the DAME practices
- Manage medical certification queries & other issues related to aviation medicine
- Initiate enforcement for non-compliance for aviation personnel and DAME
Public Health Risk Mitigation
- Development of regulations and guidelines related to the spread of communicable disease by air travel
- Evaluate manuals /procedures to ensure compliance to the spread of communicable disease by air travel
- Train industry through presentations and oversight of airports, airlines, charter and other operators
- Initiate enforcement for non-compliance of airports, airlines, charter, ANS and others
MOP evaluations and Part 138, Part 64 and Part 141 Audits
- Evaluate manuals, development of master surveillance plan and conduct audits 141,64 and 138
- Initiate enforcement for non-compliance of Part 138 ,141,64 operators and personnel
- Train industry through presentations and oversight of operators and ATO
- Development of regulations and guidelines related to Part 138,141,64 operators/ATO
Minimum Qualification
- MBCHB with Post Graduate Diploma/Higher Qualification Occupational Health, Public Health
- Administrative Medicine, Medico-Legal /Aviation Medicine or other
Ideal Qualification
- Surveillance/ Audit qualifications; aviation related experience
Experience
- 6-7 years Medical Officer/ Medico-Legal/Aviation Medicine
