Mathematics, or an Analytical field of study, plus 6 -10 years experience: leading organizations to implement future state business intelligence based architectures and/or solutions, for a position based in Cape Town.

BI Analyst – Lead - 12 month Contract
Job Purpose
- Identify business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs.
- Work closely with clients and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions.
- Build an understanding of the business at a level of detail so that critical issues can be identified and addressed.
- Provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable, and ensure the information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems.
- Educate and train clients to use the data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in new forms and content for the purpose of analysis and option exploration.
- Work with clients to determine business requirements, priorities, define key performance indicators (KPI), and develop BI and data warehouse (DW) strategy.
- This includes working with business and development teams to design, and document dashboards, alerts, and reports.
- Is accountable for providing leadership and independent initiatives in facilitating information gathering, structured documentation and presentation of findings to all levels of management.
- Conduct analyses of functional business processes and functional business requirements and participate in the development of business cases in the support of process changes and/or IT projects.
- Understand how data is turned into information and knowledge and how knowledge supports and enables key business processes.
- Must have an in-depth understanding of the business environment and an interest in going beyond the obvious, delving into the source, the definition, philosophy, and foundational roots of a data element in order to create information.
Responsibilities
Job Objectives
- Provide design support for the development of business intelligence solutions.
- Work on medium to complex and cross-functional IT and business intelligence solutions.
- Work on multiple tasks/projects as team member.
- Sometimes work as a Technical Lead.
Project/Work Planning
- Participate in the workstream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of BI solutions.
- May participate in the project management estimation process.
- Develop demand forecasts.
Business Requirements & Analysis
- Work with internal and external customers and IT partners to develop and analyze business intelligence needs.
- Provide input to business requirements for the design of solutions.
- Interpret business requirements and determine optimum BI solutions to meet needs.
- May perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms.
- Research business problems and create models that help analyze these business problems.
Testing
- May lead or provide direction for the planning, designing, and execution of user efforts.
- Review test plans and monitor the testing process to ensure that business results are tested.
- Provide input to the development of information quality metrics.
- Create data quality tickets, as needed.
Research/Evaluation
- Research tools, frameworks and mechanisms for data analytics.
- Interface with vendors to keep abreast of new technologies, pricing and customer applicability.
- Participate in vendor evaluations.
Policies, Standards and Procedures
- Adhere to current standards.
- Provides input to standards, policies and procedures for the form, structure, and attributes of the BI tools and systems.
Business Case
- Conduct feasibility studies and drafts proposals for evaluation by appropriate users and managers.
- Provide input into expenditures based on the size, scope, and cost of hardware and software components.
Research/Technical Evaluation
- Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies.
- Identify issues and make recommendations based on impact of new/emerging technology or modifications to existing systems.
Resource Management
- Provide advice, guidance and feedback.
- Ensure work, information, ideas, and technology flow freely across teams.
Organizational Change Management
- May generate appropriate communication, process and educational plans for mitigating the disruption of change.
- May identify and remove obstacles to change.
Coaching/Mentoring
- Coach and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, System Analysis
Mathematics, or an Analytical field of study.
Experience
- 6 -10 years experience: Kimball or Inmon data warehouses, data marts and supporting tools Leading organizations to implement future state business intelligence architectures and/or solutions.
- Leading major business intelligence and analytics development projects.
- Translation of Business Reporting and Analytics requirements to data requirements Working with interfaces.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of conceptual, logical and physical modeling, especially for rationalizing data objects.
- Knowledge of information management practices, architecture and frameworks, SDLC management.
- Ability to collaborate with other BI architects to support common goals and approaches.
