BI Technical Lead - (EE) Cape Town

SUMMARY:
Seeking a BI Technical Lead with an IT related Degree/Diploma and 8 years related experience for an EE position based in Cape Town.

POSITION INFO:

Job Role

• Guided by Architecture and a Technical Team Lead, be responsible for establishing new technology components and reusable solution patterns that can be leveraged by business facing development teams in their day-to-day solutions. You are regarded as an IT specialist with advanced analytical and technical skills who understands the data structures and various data sources.
• Communicate technical information to technical teams, as well as be competent in communicating challenges and solutions to Project and Operational leadership.
• An understanding of Data management solutions and a keen sense of the strategic value of information to an organisation will be of importance.
• Responsible for developing data warehousing blueprints, evaluating hardware and software platforms, and integrating systems; translating business needs into long-term architecture solutions. You possess the ability to orchestrate delivery with a complex series of stakeholders and able to conceptualise solutions built on a hybrid of technologies with no real scope at the get go, i.e. create, navigate and negotiate the scope on the fly.

 Main Responsibilities

• Ability to create efficient best practices and establishing suitable processes to ensure effective environment and solution management.
• Ability to define a structured approach to problem solving and delivery against it.
• Creation of role specific design standards, patterns, and principles
• Data management, development, and modelling
• Engage with a wide range of technical stakeholders including Data scientists, Business Analysts, Data engineers, Database administrators and Solutions architects.
• Mentor Junior Full Stack and other Developers within the team.
• Effective solution design.
• Low error rate in deployed solutions.

Key Output/ Tasks

• Design, document and communicate technical solutions that deliver on business requirements.
• Fulfil the role of subject matter expert on all technical aspects of BI products.
• Oversee all BI development / modelling activity incl. code reviews, issue resolution and general support.
• Develop technical standards and best practices.
• Identify opportunities to enhance and automate technical processes and solutions across BI projects and support operations.
• Support developers / modellers to develop data and analytical models.
• Form relationships and orchestrate delivery with key technical stakeholders across our business including architects.
• Engage with technology vendors and external technical experts when conceptualising, designing, or implementing technical solutions.
• Attend and present solutions at internal architecture forums.
• Designing (and assisting with design) of architecture used by specialists in solutions.
• Constant refinement to standardize and implement new functionality based on experience and lessons learnt.
• Designing and building reusable artefacts to improve speed of delivery and reliability of solutions.
• Identifying performance enhancements for BI and Integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot technical issues such as database non-performance, integration failures and code failures.
• Resolve critical data modelling issues impacting the functionality of BI products in production.

 Requirements

 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Engineering, or another quantitative field / National Diploma in an Information Technology.

Experience

• 8+ years related experience.
• Application and Data engineering background with a solid background in SQL.
• Data architecture design and delivery experience preferred.
• Experience in three (3) or more of the following areas:

• Understanding of SDLC, Code management / standards / re use and API integration (Expert).
• Ability to do cost estimations for new workloads.
• Experience working or modelling in SAP Hana is required.
• Data warehousing principles based on Kimball and Data Vault patterns is recommended.
• Development experience in BI.
• Knowledge and experience of structured data, such as entities, classes, hierarchies, relationships, and metadata.
• Knowledge of Database management system (DBMS) physical implementation, including tables, joins and SQL querying..
• Ability to combine data from multiple sources when needed for the analysis.
• Familiarity with the use cases, business purposes and quality of the data.

Knowledge of Technical Toolsets

• DataStage and or other ETL / DI tools
• DB2 and or other RDBS''s
• SQL
• SAP Hana (DB)
• SAP Data Services
• Cloudera / Hadoop
• Cloud deployments and integration (especially AWS)
• Some knowledge of Teradata, Attunity, Cloudera, advanced visualisation technologies and data management experience is preferred and highly advantageous.
• Database viewing tools
• Scripting languages, especially Python, Java, Sparc
• Report generation tools

Knowledge of BI Processes and Methodologies

• Agile development
• A solid background in SQL, application and information architecture and ETL procedures.
• Data integration
• Data modelling/Application modelling (Modelling in SAP HANA is preferred).
• Data analysis, visualization, and reporting.
• Ingestion
