The Business Systems Analyst is generally responsible for evaluating, designing and implementing SAP (Systems Applications and Products) software programs for business in order to help them manage such areas as various areas within a single platform.

They provide analyses of enterprise resources planning, through the support of the value chain including admit to receipt and procure to pay and determine strategies on how to implement SAP software programs. They can make changes to or customize existing programs or add new programs to existing platforms. Business Systems Analysts also train managers/users in the use of SAP software.

The Business Systems Analyst will be required to interact with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide technology solutions. This resource will also be responsible for the actual configuration of their applicable module with a considerable amount of effort in the identification and resolution of business queries.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Analyse Systems Requirements

A main responsibility of a SAP Business Systems Analyst is to determine SAP application requirements for clients. The Business Systems Analysts must analyse current needs, anticipate future needs and provide solutions for companies in integrating various business operations into one platform. This responsibility includes analysing the company’s current practices in various areas, such as production, cost control, inventory, human resources, materials management, payroll, supply chain, healthcare and other operations.

Design and Implement SAP Programs/Projects

Once they have determined a company’s need, the Business Systems Analyst helps the company to design and implement SAP programs/projects that will satisfy these needs. This might include adding upgrades, installing new systems or creating custom programs. They will need to be familiar with systems development applications and be able to run tests on all systems changes to ensure the successful integration of new software and programming and to make any modifications as necessary. This may include the integration to external parties and the use of external system that support business.

Provide Product Support and Training

The Business Systems Analyst will work with business and other streams to troubleshoot any problems with SAP programs and offer technical solutions. The Business Systems Analysts will provide a 2nd line support function responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the applicable module/s. It is also typically up to SAP Business Systems Analysts to provide training to company managers/ training teams in all areas of SAP programs.

EDUCATION

Matric/ Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4 qualification) Essential

Tertiary qualification in Information Technology related fields will be beneficial.

SAP certification would be beneficial.

SAP exposure will be beneficial.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 years’ experience in the applicable business area or SAP module.

SAP experience that would support the skills and requirements component section of this document.

Experience in and knowledge of the applicable business area/s.

KNOWLEDGE

General Skills required

Expertise in the business areas corresponding to specific SAP modules that form part of each Business

Services Area, Eg: Logistics, Pharmacy, ISH, Finance etc.

Familiarity with project management processes, such as scheduling and cost management.

Render support to end users, including knowledge transfer where applicable on relevant business systems.

Identify and document opportunities for business improvement on applicable business systems.

Perform business process analysis to determine, document and convert user requirements into a functional design specification.

Manage and implement continuous business improvement projects through the use of standards set by the Group

Ensure that all changes made to these systems are tested thoroughly and well documented.

Ensure the integrity and appropriate design of interfaces between SAP and 3rd Party Systems.

Compilation and updating of training notes for end users and training department.

Provide roll out support and participate in go – live activities for new sites.

Manage and track 2nd line support requests on Sigma (helpdesk system).

Communicate any changes or enhancements made to the relevant stakeholders that will be affected by these changes. (Integration between various platforms)

Provide specialized support to business across a range of platforms.

Advanced Skills: Business Services area – SAP Finance

The Finance Team is responsible for the following modules within SAP:

SAP FI /CO includes the following modules:

General Ledger (GL)

Controlling (CO)

Accounts Payable (AP)

Accounts Receivable (AR)

Banking

Treasury (TM)

Asset Accounting (AA) (including Tax General Knowledge)

Other modules that fall within the SAP Finance realm include:

SAP Project System (PS)

SAP Investment Management (IM)

SAP Plant Maintenance (PM)

SAP Flexible Real Estate (FX-RE)

The Business Systems Analyst is able to understand the:

Integration points between these modules,

Integration with 3rd party applications and/ or SAP Partner Add-On’s, as required.

Any other modules that may be required to be implemented as a result of business needs or due to changes in statutory reporting standards.
