Beef Farm Manager

SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Beef Farm Manager to oversee the strategic and day-to-day operations of 7 farms running 2,000 cattle. This role requires a hands-on leader with expertise in large-scale beef production, veld management, and team coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Farm Operations:
  
  • Manage daily operations across 7 farms, ensuring optimal cattle health, breeding, and growth performance.
  • Implement veld management strategies to maintain pasture quality and sustainability.
• Cattle Management:
  
  • Oversee herd health, vaccination programs, and breeding schedules.
  • Monitor feed programs, grazing rotations, and supplementary feeding during droughts.
• Team Leadership:
  
  • Train, supervise, and motivate farm staff (e.g., herdsmen, technicians).
  • Schedule shifts and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Financial & Administrative Duties:
  
  • Manage budgets, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g., calving rates, feed costs, veterinary expenses).
• Compliance:
  
  • Ensure adherence to animal welfare standards, biosecurity measures, and environmental regulations.

POSITION INFO:

• Experience:
  
  • 5+ years in beef farm management, preferably with herds of 500+ cattle.
  • Proven track record in veld management and drought mitigation.
• Skills:
  
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues (e.g., disease outbreaks, feed shortages).
  • Proficiency in farm management software (advantageous).
• Language:
  
  • Xhosa proficiency (strongly preferred) for effective communication with local teams.
