SUMMARY:
Background:
- The Wits Diagnostic Innovation Hub is a division of Wits Health Consortium
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
POSITION INFO:
Division: Wits Diagnostic and Innovation Hub (Wits DIH)
Main purpose of the job:
- To coordinate sample registration on LDMS and the retrieval of samples according to client specific requests and oversee repository activities to ensure that all operations run smoothly
Location:Key performance areas: - Oversee biorepository processes and ensure daily operations run optimally
- Perform demo checks, error checking and attending to queries
- Ensure all work is performed in line with the SOPs
- Check that equipment is validated, cleaned and calibrated
- Ensure stock is ordered timeously
- Report any issues and areas of concern to the biorepository manager
- Manager staff and operations of the biorepository as delegated by the manager
- Maintain a neat and tidy work areas
- Ensure daily maintenance of freezers and instruments
- Signing of log sheets to ensure maintenance and proper working order
- Fill the copiers with paper as and when required
- Perform quality checks for specimens logged to ensure that all samples are logged correctly as per protocols
- Supervise correct specimen data entry on LDMS
- Supervise quality labelling of specimens
- Ensure correct storage allocation of specimen and in freezers
- Ensure specimen retrieval lists match client requests
- Ensure quality specimen retrieval for all shipments
- Ensure sample integrity is maintained during specimen retrieval
- Ensure timely booking of shipments and specimen integrity for shipments
- Ensure timely shipment alerts to sponsors once shipments have been dispatched
Required minimum education and training: - Diploma in Biomedical Sciences
Required minimum work experience: - Minimum 1 years’ experience in Biorepository and Shipping Processes
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:- Attention to detail
- Good time management skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Clinical Trials background with biorepository experience will be advantageous
- Computer literacy
- Good Clinical Laboratory Practice course completion
- IATA certification for shipment of dangerous goods
