SUMMARY:
We require a Business Continuity Practitioner to work in Cape Town.
POSITION INFO:
The role of the Business Continuity Practitioner encompasses many activities within the scope of the relevant service area including (but not limited to):
- Service Continuity Management (service area):
a) Facilitating the definition of the availability options and constraints based on the Ce-I services catalogue.
b) Reviewing the disaster recovery sites and the location strategy in line with the risk, availability, and the future disaster recovery requirements.
c) Assessing the availability requirements of infrastructure and business applications.
d) Providing recommendations on the gaps identified and an improvement plan for senior management.
e) Articulating and developing a backup strategy for transversal applications.
f) Reviewing and completing the IT Disaster Recovery Plan ("DRP") for Ce-I covering all infrastructure and applications that are hosted and managed by Ce-I, including external and cloud environments.
g) Performing a bi-annual disaster recovery system test on core infrastructure, data centre services and business-critical systems.
h) Guiding the implementation of the Data Recovery location strategy and improvements to the IT DRP strategy.
i) Defining and documenting business continuity (BC) policies.
j) Defining departmental BC policy and the scope of the programme for the department (products, services, and locations – nature, scale, complexity, and geographical locations).
k) Defining and implement IT governance within the scope of the BC programme - adequately resourced and financed programme.
l) Ensuring continual improvement of resilience.
m) Using a Project/ Programme Management methodology to implement the criteria outlined in this domain.
- Analysis:
a) Performing a business impact analysis based on the strategic, tactical and operational information.
b) Developing a consistent methodology and framework across the departments.
c) Analyzing the dependencies, processes and systems.
d) Analyzing disruptions that result in a degradation of service (Impact of disruptions).
e) Analyzing the threats prioritized by level of impact to the departments.
f) Identifying the single points of failure and unacceptable risks.
g) Validating the scope of the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).
h) Analyzing the outcomes of the most critical operations and systems.
i) Performing a risk assessment based on threats.
- Design:
a) Designing and documenting recovery strategies.
b) Assisting with the articulation of third-party requirements for procurement of required resources for recovery process.
c) Articulating, developing, and documenting Incident response plans including roles and responsibilities of the relevant teams.
d) Designing and documenting threat mitigation measures.
e) Designing and documenting communications plans.
- Implementation:
a) Scheduling and conducting sessions to implement strategies.
- Reviews:
a) Performing annual reviews and updating of the business continuity plans to ensure that the business continuity goals are aligned with the departmental goals.
b) Annually reviewing and updating the disaster recovery plans to enable critical business processes to continue at an agreed level following a disaster.
c) Documenting and communicating the results of reviews, assessments and the business continuity testing to Information Security Steering Committee.
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or applicable courses.
- Minimum of 5 years'' experience as a Business Continuity Practitioner.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in working with public sector.
- Must be a member of the ISACA in order to have access to ISACA resources.
