Our client has a position available in their company for a Business Unit Manager, within the Utilities and Energy department.
This position is based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
Requirements:
- BSc / B Engineering Electrical or Mechanical.
- Government Certificate of Competency (Advantageous).
- Management qualification MDP or MBA.
- Minimum of 12 – 14 years as an Engineer and 10 years’ experience in people management.
- Must have extensive knowledge in OSHACT, LRA (1995), BCEA, Environmental legislation.
- Self-motivated with a good work ethic, strong leadership qualities and excellent analytical skills.
- Strategic, analytical, and decisive thinker to thrive and work across disciplines.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage complexity.
- Experience in setting and managing teams’ key performance indicators.
- Experience in managing budgets (personnel and operational budgets).
- Excellent negotiation and report writing skills with ability to manage relations with internal and external suppliers.
- Ability to coach and lead professional, skilled and resourceful teams.
- Strive to continuously improve processes, people, and oneself.
Responsibilities:
- Compliance to all legislation: (OSHACT, LRA(1995), BCEA, Environmental legislation, Employment Equity act, etc.).
- Develop, implement and manage the maintenance strategy for Utilities and Services to ensure continued capability and capacity of the equipment.
- Advance the maintenance maturity in terms of Industry 4.0 and predictive maintenance.
- Develop standards of quality and compliance to ISO9001 and other standards of Excellence.
- Drive the Company Sustainability Plan.
- Manage critical utility supplies and contracts.
- Achieve the Excellence plan and Cost targets.

Buildings, Lifting Machines and Attachments and Rigging
- Statutory requirements and maintenance of main buildings and structures
- Statutory testing, inspections and maintenance of Lifting machines and attachments: overhead cranes, portal cranes, semi-portal cranes, slab and coil tongs
- Rigging inspections and applications
Electrical Power Reticulation and distribution system
- High Tension power system – Eskom supply, transformers, breakers and protection systems, static var compensation systems and reticulation systems from 33kV to 525V
- Backup power systems
- Electrical motor inspection and maintenance services and motor repair contracts
Vehicle Maintenance
- Heavy duty mobile vehicles for transporting slag, ladle cleaning, coil and plate transportation
- Forklifts
- General vehicles
Central Workshops
- Refurbishment workshop – rolls, gearboxes and assemblies
- Machining Workshop – CNC and standard machines and weld manipulator
- Hydraulic workshop – cylinders, valves and similar components

Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance
- Vibration analysis
