Job Title: CNC Operator (Milling \/ Turning \/ Horizontal Boring) Department: Manufacturing & Production Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Operator to set up, program adjustments, and operate advanced Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery. In this safety-critical manufacturing environment, you will produce high-precision OEM components for the mining, mineral processing, and industrial equipment sectors. You will work with heavy-duty machinery, interpret technical drawings, and ensure all parts match exact specifications through strict quality checks. Key Responsibilities Machine Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate advanced CNC machinery-including Precision CNC Milling (ranging from 20mm up to 3000mm length with a 1000mm height capacity)[cite: 3] and Precision CNC Turning (up to 3000mm length, 780mm max swing diameter, and 350mm over the saddle)[cite: 3]. Setup & Adjustments: Mount, secure, and align workpieces, raw materials, and fixtures safely, making necessary offset and G-code\/M-code program adjustments at the machine control. Blueprint & Technical Reading: Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine correct tooling, feeds, speeds, and sequencing. Process Monitoring: Monitor machining processes continuously for tool wear, unusual vibration, or deviation, adjusting parameters as needed to protect equipment and maintain tight tolerances. Quality Assurance & Verification: Perform first-off and in-process dimensional quality checks using precision measuring tools, and coordinate with quality control standards (including familiarity with CMM 3D measuring principles). Maintenance & Shop Safety: Conduct routine daily machine maintenance, keep the work area clean and hazard-free, and strictly follow all occupational health and safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and POPIA-aligned facility protocols. Requirements & Qualifications Education & Experience: Relevant technical high school diploma, N-courses, or completed trade test\/apprenticeship in machining or mechanical engineering technology. Proven hands-on experience (minimum 2-3+ years) operating CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, or CNC horizontal boring mills within a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment. Technical Competencies: Strong ability to read, interpret, and work from detailed technical blueprints and engineering drawings. Sound working knowledge of CNC machine controls, programming logic (G-code\/M-code), and parameter\/offset modifications. Proficiency in using precision hand-held measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges). Understanding of tool geometry, material properties, feeds, and speeds for various industrial metals and alloys. Attributes & Physical Demands: High level of attention to detail and a commitment to micron-level accuracy and zero-defect manufacturing. Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical competence, and problem-solving skills. Ability to stand for extended periods, perform physical tasks related to heavy machine setups, and work safely within an industrial factory environment.
