SUMMARY:
We are currently looking for a Cartage Controller to coordinate and monitor the movement of goods between customers, suppliers, warehouses, distribution centres, and other destinations. The role ensures that deliveries and collections are scheduled efficiently, vehicles are allocated appropriately, documentation is accurate, and customers receive timely updates.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements Grade 12 \/ Matric. Diploma or certificate in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain, or a related field would be advantageous. 2-3 years' experience in a transport, logistics, fleet, or dispatch environment. Experience in a similar Cartage Controller, Transport Controller, Fleet Controller, or Logistics Controller position. Good knowledge of transport and delivery processes. Computer literate, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Experience with transport management, fleet tracking, or ERP systems would be advantageous. A valid driver's licence would be advantageous. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily cartage, deliveries, and collections according to operational requirements. Schedule and allocate vehicles and drivers to planned loads and routes. Monitor vehicle movements and ensure deliveries are completed within agreed timeframes. Communicate with drivers, customers, warehouse staff, transporters, and management regarding delivery requirements. Track vehicles and provide regular updates on delivery progress. Manage delays, breakdowns, route changes, and other transport-related issues. Ensure that all delivery and collection documentation is completed accurately. Verify trip sheets, delivery notes, proof of delivery (PODs), and related transport documentation. Capture and maintain accurate transport and delivery records. Follow up on outstanding PODs and ensure that documentation is returned timeously. Liaise with customers regarding delivery times, changes, delays, and special requirements. Assist with resolving customer queries and delivery discrepancies. Monitor driver performance and adherence to scheduled routes and delivery times. Ensure compliance with company transport procedures, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation. Assist with monitoring vehicle utilisation and transport costs. Escalate operational problems to the Transport or Logistics Manager. Prepare daily and\/or weekly transport reports when required. Maintain accurate records of loads, trips, vehicle movements, and delivery status. Assist with planning and coordinating urgent or priority deliveries. Ensure effective communication between the transport department and other operational departments.
