POSITION INFO:
A well-established South African contract catering company providing professional, large-scale food service management across the corporate, healthcare, education and residential care sectors. The Catering Manager will take operational, culinary, and financial responsibility for a boutique catering unit within a retirement village in Howick. Catering for approximately 60-70 residents daily, this hands-on role focuses on delivering wholesome, high-quality meals, managing kitchen staff, maintaining strict food safety standards, and building warm relationships with residents and facility management. Key responsibilities Oversee daily kitchen operations, meal preparation, portion control, and dining service for approximately 60-70 pax per day. Manage food costings, stock control, ordering, menu planning, and administrative paperwork. Lead, schedule, train, and mentor a small kitchen and service team. Maintain strict hygiene, health, and safety standards in line with HACCP regulations. Plan balanced, nutritious menus tailored to the dietary requirements of senior residents. Working hours: 07h00 to 16h00 (5 days per week with 2 days off), with occasional extra hours required for special functions or events. Liaise directly with facility management and residents to ensure high satisfaction levels. Requirements Matric. A qualification in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, or Food Service Management is advantageous. Experience as a Catering Manager, F&B Manager, Executive Chef, or Commis Chef. Solid practical knowledge of kitchen administrative paperwork, including food costings and stock control. Practical understanding of HACCP and occupational health and safety standards. Valid driver's licence and own vehicle. Attributes Friendly, polite, and patient demeanour. High standards of hygiene, organisation, and attention to detail. Strong team leadership and interpersonal communication skills. Solution-focused attitude with practical problem-solving skills.
