SUMMARY:
This position is suited to a qualified Chartered Accountant with at least 10 years progressive post article experience. Our client is a successful European, import, distribution, and retail business with established operations in South Africa and global headquarters in Europe.

The Chief Financial Officer will be a key trusted partner to the business, taking ownership of the full finance function in South Africa while reporting directly to Global Headquarters in Europe. This role requires a commercially minded, detail orientated leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, adapting to what the business needs, and working closely with owners, executives, and operational teams in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

POSITION INFO:
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chief Financial Officer will be a senior leader responsible for the financial operations, governance and reporting.

Take full ownership of the South African finance function, remaining handsâon and involved in both strategic and operational financial matters.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning to support sustainable growth and sound decision making.
Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting to local leadership and European headquarters in compliance with IFRS and Group standards.
Drive continuous improvement of finance processes, systems, and controls, including the implementation of accounting software and automation.
Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Board and shareholders, providing practical, commercially focused insights.
Manage banking relationships, funding structures, and working capital, including negotiation of credit facilities.
Oversee core finance operations including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and statutory compliance.
Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies in line with South African regulations.
Work closely and collaboratively with operational and commercial teams in a nonâhierarchical, entrepreneurial environment.
Support strategic initiatives and growth opportunities, including financial due diligence for partnerships or joint ventures.
Serve as the key finance link between the South African business and the European parent company.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Qualified CA(SA) is essential with 10+ years progressive post article experience
Significant senior financial leadership experience, preferably within import, distribution, retail.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial controls, statutory compliance, and South African tax regulations.
Demonstrated ability to lead change, implement systems, and improve finance processes.
Enjoys mentoring and developing people
Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into strategic insights.
Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage at Board and Group level.
Experience working with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders.

Package and Remuneration
R 1 500 000 – R 1 600 000 per annum
