Chief Geologist

SUMMARY:
Our client in the mining industry is looking for a Chief Geologist to join their team in Postmasburg, Northern Cape.

POSITION INFO:
Position: Chief Geologist
Location: Postmasburg, Northern Cape
Closing date: Wednesday, 3 November 2021

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: 

• Grade 12 (Required);
• Bachelor Hons Degree in Geology or General Diploma in Engineering or Mineral Resource Management or Mining Engineering (Required);
• Diploma in Business Management (Advantageous).

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

• Eight (8) Years Operational Mining Geology (In Total) Experience (Required);
• Five (5) Years Operational Commodity-Specific (Iron Ore) Experience (Required);
• Three (3) Years People Management Experience (Required);
• Valid Code B Driving License (Required).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

• Professional Status: SACNASP and Geological of South Africa;
• Behavoural Competencies: Business Acumen, Leadership Skills, Relationship Building Skills, Results Driven and Change Leadership Skills;
• System Skills: Microsoft Office, Laboratory Information Management Systems and Geological Software;
• Technical Competency: Mining Competency A.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, implement, control, and monitor approved changes;
• Business intelligence and trend analyses;
• Functional process optimisation;
• Implement operations effectiveness model and practice;
• Promote and enforce compliance;
• Plan, direct and assess quality management within function;
• Input into functional planning;
• Micro- and macro-economic awareness;
• Mine geology and resources reserve management;
• Exploration geology;
• Research and development;
• Grade control;
• Ground water modelling;
• Comply with IMS standards;
• Implement cost control systems;
• Internal and external stakeholder relationships;
• Implement and manage people development initiatives;
• People development and identify training gaps;
• Functional performance management;
• Workforce planning.
