SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Chief Growth Office to lead the marketing, membership, policy, advocacy, international trade and enterprise development functions to achieve the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

POSITION INFO:

Duties

  • Ensure that the Durban Chamber is correctly and effectively marketed to the internal customer (membership) based on a marketing strategy and plan.
  • Raise brand awareness and ensure that the Durban Chamber is consistently prominent in both the public and private sector.
  • Ensure that communication with members, the public and other stakeholders is clear, Influential, relevant, and regular.
  • Ensure that the Durban Chamber presents itself in an optimally professional manner, as directed by a public relations strategy and plan.
  • Consolidate the membership of the Durban Chamber based on a dedicated recruitment and retention strategy and plan.
  • Engage actively with members as much as possible to create and sustain the perception that it is the members that constitute the Durban Chamber.
  • Ensure that services offered to members display a segmented approach which appeals to both corporate and SME sectors and reflects the value of the subscription paid.
  • Initiate and promote projects and programmes aimed at developing and growing the Chamber movement.
  • Ensure that the Chamber implements a programme of events and functions (major functions and networking/promotional/briefing/information sharing events) which enhance the reputation of the Chamber, as an active and relevant business organisation.
  • Establish and develop regular events and functions that supplement the Chamber’s revenue.
  • Secure sponsorships and donations to facilitate the promotion of events and functions.
  • Provide leadership for discussion in collaboration with the Chairperson and Manager: Policy and Advocacy.
  • Liaise with the chairpersons and forum coordinators, as well as responsible managers, as required.

 

  • Represent the Chamber as required within stakeholder forums where advocacy issues are relevant.
  • Host the trade delegation and enable networking between delegates and business contacts.
  • Follow-up on queries for representatives of trade missions on a regular basis.
  • Arrange trade missions abroad in accordance with the preference of Chamber members.
  • Assist with applications to the DTI for outbound trade delegations and on occasion accompany a delegation.
  • Ensure delegations and their successes are advertised appropriately.
  • Analyse income and expenditure from the previous year.
  • Forecast the budget for the forthcoming year.
  • Oversee manager’s performance in relation to meeting the budget set for the year (tracking).
  • Provide regular budget updates, as required (tracking).
  • Research and raise sponsorship, donations, and grant funding.
  • Provide regular feedback at executive and/or other ad hoc meetings requested by the CEO.
  • Prepare monthly operational/progress reports to inform the CEO’s report to Board and Council.
  • Investigate and make recommendations on projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure collective effort.
  • Prepare a project plan which identifies a sequence of activities to completion.
  • Determine resources (time, money, staff, equipment) needed.
  • Implement according to the project plan.
  • Monitor progress and budget, and then adjust.
  • Write feedback reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification, preferably a degree in Marketing, Communications and Sales. 
  • A relevant post graduate qualification would be an advantage. 
  • Approximately 10 years’ experience in corporate communications, marketing and sales strategy and brand management, with at least 5 years at a management level. 
  • Thorough understanding of reputation management, stakeholder relations, sponsorship and event management.
  •  Experience in a corporate environment.
