SUMMARY:
We require a Chief Network Technologist/Technician to work in Cape Town for a contract role.

POSITION INFO:

The role of the Chief Network Technologist encompasses many activities including (but not limited to):

Network Infrastructure Services
  • Identifying and diagnosing advanced problems with network infrastructure.
  • Setup and configuration of Cisco range of switches, routers and wireless access points.
  • Virtualization (VM Ware and Hyper VJ).
  • Designing network architecture.
  • Designing and implementing of the CISCO data centre switches, such as the CISCO 6500 and NEXUS 2K, SK and 7K.
  • Managing and deploying the Microsoft server platform, such as base OS, patch Management, DHCP and other related services.
  • Managing and enhancing the network security platforms, such as servers, switches, and backend infrastructure.
  • Audio-Visual (VC) setup, troubleshooting and support.
  • Project management.
  • Solution research.
  • Implementation of advanced solutions.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing more complex issues.
  • VLAN knowledge and configuration.
  • Advanced / expert network designs.
VoIP Services
  • VoIP service setup, installation and support.
  • Managing and deploying secure wireless environments.
  • Managing and deploying collaboration and unified communication.
  • Managing and reporting of CISCO network management tools, such as ACS and CUCM.
  • Managing and expansion of the CISCO unified platform, such as CUCM and UCCX.
  • Project management.
  • Solution research.
  • Implementation of advanced solutions.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing more complex issues.
WAN (Broadband) Services
  • Site assessments and migrations for BBi.
  • Implementation of intricate JCT solution sets to ensure layers I, 2 and 3 are installed and configured in accordance to agreed design.
  • Project management.
  • Solution research.
  • Implementation of advanced solutions.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing more complex issues.
Data Centre Facilities Management
  • Microsoft Azure and support.
  • Data Centre Management.
  • Identify and diagnose problems in Data Centre environment/ solution.
  • Identify and diagnose problems in HP storage environment.
  • Integrate HPE''s ProLiant and Blade System server solutions into current environment.
  • Identify, recommend, and explain Enterprise Storage Solutions architectures and technologies, and translate business requirements into storage solution designs that support applications and data across physical, virtual and cloud environments with a common architecture and converged management.
  • Design HPE Backup Solutions including the right Backup, Recovery, and Archive (BURA) strategies for various customer scenarios.
  • Plan, design, validate and propose hardware-agnostic Enterprise Storage and Backup Solutions and backup and recovery solutions.
  • Project Management.
  • Solution Research.
Telecommunications – Installation, Reticulation, Augmentation and Maintenance Services
  • Identifying and diagnosing problems with telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Site assessments and installation of telecommunications infrastructure on new and existing WCG sites.
  • Solution research.
  • Planning, design, materials, equipment, labor, configuration, programming, testing, start up and commissioning services.
  • Troubleshooting and solving telecommunications failures.
  • Assisting with the deployment of secure wireless environments.
  • Assisting with the deployment of collaboration and unified communication.
  • Assisting with the network security platforms, such as servers, switches, and backend infrastructure as they relate to telecommunications.
  • Integration of any hardware/software configuration or telephone system to allow for maximum flexibility, e.g., instruments, switches, wireless environment, and backend support.
  • Hardware installation, as and when required, ensuring the use of or recommended use of industry-leading components to ensure the durability of the WCG''s telecommunications network.
  • Data cable repairs.
  • Fusion splicing of relevant fibre optic cables.
  • Mechanical jointing.
  • End-to-end testing to ensure optimal performance.
  • The installation of all new telephone points, incorporating comprehensive adds, moves, and changes in the WCG''s telephony estate.
  • Category (CAT} Five (5) and Six (6) cabling for WCG-owned buildings.
  • Category /CAT} Three /3) cabling for buildings being rented by the WCG.
  • Transfer of telephone extensions between buildings within the WCG''s 483-Telephone Network.
  • Stripping of Category (CAT} three (3), five (5) and six (6) cables; and Health checks and verification reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Cisco OEM Certification as:
  1. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) OR
  2. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Related appropriate 3 years of experience in the same or similar role
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a part of a team.
  • Ability to be self-managed, ethical and honest.
  • Ability to be respectful and seek to build relationships.
  • Have a pragmatic approach to business transformation.
  • Strong presentation skills at board level (EXCO, CTM etc.).
  • Relevant technical skills and experience.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in the business.
