SUMMARY:
A vacancy for a qualified Civil Engineer (with working experience in Geotechnical and/or Water engineering) has become available in our Environmental Geotechnical Business Unit in the Durban/Pietermaritzburg office.

POSITION INFO:

Experience and Skills:

The candidate must have:

  • A Civil Engineering degree (minimum BSc or BEng, post-graduate would be an advantage) specialising in soil mechanics and/or water (hydrology and hydraulics); prior knowledge and experience of the design and management of mineral residue facilities is preferable and would be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years in the consulting field.
  • This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects both nationally and overseas; international travel may form a significant part of the role.

Other skills that would be an advantage:

  • Experience in the design, construction, operation, closure, and related legal, environmental and techno-economic requirements related to Mineral Residue Facilities would be an advantage.
  • Experience in numerical modelling of tailings engineering related projects would be an advantage (seepage, slope stability, seismics, dam breach).

Roles and responsibilities:

The candidate will be involved in:

  • General civil engineering work.
  • Geotechnical investigations of existing Mineral Residue Facilities.
  • Foundation, geotechnical and structural engineering design of specialist structures.
  • Water related studies associated with the Mineral Residue Facilities.
  • Support to Engineer of Record with ongoing monitoring, evaluation and analysis of data, studies and designs related to the complete life cycle of the Mineral Residue Facility. The life cycle design includes all legal, water and all other resources protection and health, safety and environmental requirements with a focus on client risk and hazard management requirements.
  • Construction/site activities.
  • Ongoing attention to individual and team development and growth to remain at the forefront of Mineral Residue Facility engineering will be a key success factor.
