JOB SUMMARY:
The Cloud Engineer: Storage and Virtualization is responsible for the design, implementation, performance optimization and integrity of the virtualization, storage and backup environments. This role is responsible for the stability, integrity and day-to-day performance of the hypervisor and its guests. The Cloud Storage and Virtualization Engineer applies proven communication and problem solving skills to troubleshoot performance issues, provide reliable backups and be part of the engineering and implementation of the various infrastructure components that forms part of the virtualization and storage environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Objectives

Design, build and operate Virtual and Storage infrastructure in accordance with best practices
Installing and configuring new storage hardware and software or supervise contract / vendor personnel during installation and configuration
Conduct analysis, data mining and reporting, with a focus on actionable results
Ensure the uptime, availability and proper performance of all components.
Documentation and management of disaster recovery procedures and ensuring system, storage, and network availability through collaborative processes
Managing & monitor infrastructure

Job Skills

Utilize advanced systems/storage engineering experience to conduct capacity planning, advanced problem diagnosis and resolution, system monitoring and error reporting, and system maintenance including creation and maintenance of systems documentation and diagrams.
Able to complete installations in a timely and professional manner, including proper mounting of hardware and securing of cabling to ensure that systems are properly secured globally.
Senior level knowledge of storage platforms, EMC, Netapp, etc.
Senior level knowledge of virtualization technologies, VMWare, KVM, XEN, Hyper-V, etc.
Excellent ethernet networking skills.
Excellent understanding of software defined networking.
Excellent understanding of backup technologies such as Veeam, Avamar, BackupExec, etc.
Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
Well-developed verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Able to troubleshoot challenging problems.
Able to write proposals or papers and make presentations.
Able to act as liaison and manage vendors.
Able to work closely with upper management.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under high-pressure situations.
Excellent understanding of scripting, PowerShell, and Python.

Minimum Requirement

Grade 12
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Virtualization Certificate (VMware/Redhat/Microsoft)
Storage systems certifications/courses
Enterprise class hardware certifications/courses
Networking certifications (CCNP/JNCIP)
5-7 years of experience as a BSD/Linux/Windows/Solaris systems administrator
7-10 years progressively increasing responsibility in computer operations, network and systems administration, and systems engineering
2-3 years’ customer support experience
3-5 years’ experience on compute infrastructure including Cisco UCS, HP, Dell, Fujitsu, etc.
3-5 years’ experience building and maintaining FC networks.
