Commercial Lines Underwriter – Join a Leading Short-Term Insurance Brokerage in Claremont, Cape Town

An established and respected short-term insurance brokerage based in Claremont, Cape Town, is seeking the expertise of a seasoned Commercial Lines Underwriter to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented professional to take ownership of a portfolio within a well-supported, tech-forward environment.

The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be a FAIS-accredited underwriter with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Commercial Lines. Proficiency in CIMS and the Santam mainframe is essential, as is the ability to work independently and maintain accuracy in a paperless environment. Strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail are a must.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, clients, insurers, and suppliers

• Provide expert advice on policy covers, terms, and conditions

• Manage the full underwriting process: quotes, new business, renewals, and endorsements

• Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements and Binder agreements

• Maintain accurate records on internal CRM systems

• Monitor and manage credit control for the assigned portfolio

• Evaluate risks and negotiate terms with insurers and brokers

• Keep up to date with industry trends and product developments

Minimum Requirements:

• FAIS accredited (relevant qualification and RE5)

• At least 5 years’ experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting

• Proficient in CIMS and the Santam mainframe

• Able to work with minimal supervision

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• High attention to detail

• Comfortable in a paperless working environment

Remuneration:
