SUMMARY:
Our client is a leader in the execution of every facet of power projects, delivering high-voltage electrical infrastructure solutions across South Africa. Their team works on critical power infrastructure projects that energize communities and enable growth. They’re seeking a skilled Substation Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team of professionals.

POSITION INFO:
You will be responsible for the commissioning of HV/MV substations, ensuring that they are tested, configured, and safely brought online. You will collaborate with engineering, construction, and utility teams to deliver technically sound and compliant electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Execute commissioning plans for substations (11kV to 132kV+)
Perform functional testing of protection relays, SCADA systems, and automation controls
Conduct loop checks, CT/VT ratio and polarity tests, breaker timing, and insulation resistance tests
Interpret single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and interface drawings
Produce commissioning reports and documentation as per project and client standards
Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure safe energization
Ensure that all work complies with safety regulations and quality standards

Requirements:

Electrical Engineering Degree or National Diploma (Heavy Current)
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in substation commissioning (HV/MV)
Strong knowledge of protection relays (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens, and Schneider)
Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus)
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel/site-based work
Ability to work under pressure and independently
