Main purpose of the job:

  • The Communications Officer will ensure the implementation of RHAP’s communication strategy and develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate communications to support RHAP’s primary advocacy campaigns

Location:

  • RHAP Offices – Rosebank, Johannesburg, Gauteng

Key performance areas:

  • Manage content across RHAP’s social media platforms and curate online engagement
  • Develop, design, and implement media campaigns based on RHAP’s work as needed
  • Maintain RHAP website by ensuring that content is relevant, accurate, and updated regularly, and track engagement via web analytics
  • Produce and edit advocacy materials, including information briefs, press releases, opinion pieces, and videos
  • Support program staff with editing and designing publications and tools (e.g. presentations, reports, factsheets), and/or manage external consultants developing these
  • Produce and distribute regular newsletters to update the RHAP board, partners, and supporters
  • Collect monthly platform metrics
  • Liaise with media through managing queries and maintaining media database
  • Periodically assist with coordination and IT support of meetings, training, webinars, and other public events as needed

Required minimum education and training:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, journalism, or a similar field

Required minimum work experience:

  • 2-3 years experience in digital advocacy, communications, marketing, or journalism

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Professional proficiency in English and one additional South African language
  • Proficiency using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Mailchimp, and WordPress
  • Experience using graphic design software is an added advantage
  • Experience managing digital content
  • Strong written, verbal, and editing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must be an organized self-starter who can work well independently and as a team member
  • Ability to travel nationally when required
  • Experience in the health field is an added advantage but is not required
  • Sincere commitment to social justice and health equity
